I ran over a dead skunk last night. It was a horrifying experience that I keep reliving and I'll be paying for that encounter for at least the next two weeks.
Does that count?

Hell yeah.
That should teach you not to run over road kill especially with the window down
Getting sprayed point blank in the face is a real concern... I rather be maced.
Fortunately they tend to be docile unless really provoked.
I always laugh when I hear dogs barking like crazy a couple blocks away,
then a few minutes latter smell the reason they stopped barking.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Lol I accidentally did that to a porcupine on a fishing trip. It was hit it or go into traffic, so I ran the fucker over. Quill went through the sidewall of my tire and caused a slow leak I didn't catch until hours later when I stopped.

This was before iphones, so I didn't even think about taking a picture. Who the hell knew a quill could get through the sidewall of a belted tire?

Nothing like changing a tire in the rain at 10pm in the middle of nowhere. At least 10pm up here in summer looks like 4pm everywhere else from the amount of daylight we get.

Well not terrifying unless youre an arachnophobic I guess but just trying to keep the animal thread alive.

Tossed my truck key on the ground and this little guy went scrambling over to it, maybe he thought it could be an easy meal or a cheap date.

I recently had a most unpleasant experience that involved biting flies. Evidently, deet does not deter them from taking chunks out of your scalp.
I recommend avoiding biting flies whenever possible.

I've found that sunscreen works on no-see-ums, at the very least. They're so small that the sunscreen (or any kind of lotion, really) forms a thin protective layer over your skin.

I've always found unexpected pigeons to be terrifying. There's nothing worse than reaching the top of a flight of stairs only for a grey blur to go flapping past your face.

So, I was wandering through a cow pasture, and my friend and I had mostly been left alone by the docile cows, so we weren't too concerned about them being all around us. Suddenly, we heard a menacing grunt, and when we turned to look, we saw a big bull staring right at us with territorial aggression in his eyes.

I asked my friend, "Can you outrun a bull?"
He said, "No, but I can outrun you."

I knew he was right. We had collectively messed with the bull, and if we ran, I was going to get the horns for both of us. I maintained eye contact with the bull as I slowly took a big step backward...into a nest of yellow jackets.

Any attempt to maintain composure vanished as I flailed about madly, trying to get out of the stinging swarm. My friend, thinking quickly, started hitting me with a stick in order to get rid of the ones that were already on me that I couldn't reach myself.

When the yellow jacket threat was resolved, we were like, "Oh yeah, bull," but mercifully, the cows had all gone somewhere else while I was being all noisy and distracted.

This was also the day I learned that applying a compress of wet tobacco is really good for soothing stings.

In the dark tunnels and underground parts of Haverford State Hosp (demolished), something was moving around and making weird noises. My flashlight finally exposed it as a duck that had probably walked right through the front glass doors which were all smashed out, then waddled its way down the stairs, but was now hopelessly lost inside, scared and ready to attack. Wasn't much I could do for the big bird, so I went on my way. Of course, on a return trip, I found its carcass in the same general section. Not terrifying, except initially, but very sad.

I'm curious as to what others have experienced out there when it comes to animals, more specifically the scary/dangerous encounters.

Personally I went into a building with two friends and at first spooked a bird, nbd, I can handle a bird. Even got a cool picture of it.
https://s29.postimg.org/oj78drphv/DSC01166.jpg[/eimg]

Continued exploring the house as you do, oogling and taking pictures of everything. Notice a lot of animal feces on the stairs, for whatever reason I think nothing of it, despite the sheer large amount of it.
https://s29.postimg.org/ev0uznq8j/DSC01180.jpg[/eimg]

For some slight context we had been hearing noises like kids coming, and police sirens, both turned out to be "nothing" so we continued the exploration. Continuing upstairs, slowly, reach the attic and stop. We all collectively realize that they noises we had heard were not kids, or police, but coyotes.

Then we hear something literally climb into the bottom floor. I was terrified. Obviously at that point we decide it's time to leave, and me being the largest of the group of course I have to go first. I vividly remember my friend asking me if I had my knife and me replying with "That won't help". So we ended up making it out and everything was good but I will never forget it. I happened to be recording and you can hear the sound of them crawling in. If that's something you guys would want to hear hit me up. We also realized that the coyotes were probably living in the attic that we were about to enter, because of the feces on the stairs. Close one.

Now, what's your story?
I was in an abandoned brick silo in missouri about 5 storys over the ground on top in a room and a 6 ft long black snake starts slithering strait at me i start running back and all of a sudden the snake strait slithers off down a latter shaft 5 storys down and committed suicide R.I.P

That sounds like a really bad day!

I've been attacked by bees and barely survived (I was very young). You're lucky you had such a good friend with you. Had I been alone, I definitely would not have survived.

flash photography made these guys edgy or disoriented because they all started taking off after I shot this (didn't wait around to see if they were Africanized)

Looks like they're forming a ball; they do that when moving the nest. Because the queen is there or nearby they are on high alert.
Africanized ones would have probably nailed you unless you out ran them... they are nasty.

Even normal honey bees in W Texas act more like yellow jackets than the honey bees that live up north. They will defend nectar and water sources like it's their hive.
Much more aggressive especially the alpha scout bees... I've killed a lot of honey bees in W Texas including a few Africanized ones.

My wife totaled a car last year when she hit a deer on the highway. She made it out okay.

Had it been a moose, she'd probably be dead as we speak.

She was lucky.

Many people don't realize how unpredictable, fast, agile and dangerous these grazers can be.
They can broadside you too.
I came within 2 feet of getting a face full of deer going down the road at 35 mph about 10 years ago. It came out of a hedge row and I could hear it's hooves sliding on the pavement and see it coming at me in the corner of eye.
It's hooves caught traction at the last second and it disappeared back into the hedgerow.

I had one broadside my truck about 30 years ago; I braked for the first two but tail end Charlie ran right into me. This is pretty common; the deer in the back tend to be the more inept, poor vision etc of the herd.
If you see one, expect more. When they are running it gets dicey.
I hate deer; rats with long legs.

Had one stick it's head through the passenger window of my old Jeep Cherokee at about 65mph. In the however many feet it took me to simultaneously hit the brake and the gas to stop the rig she had kicked off the side in three places and took off running.

Just glad I had the window down because she hit me hard.
