I was there about a month ago. The whole site is being demolished, though there were still buildings standing at that time.

We only had time to explore one building which was wide open; no security that we saw (mid-day on a Monday).

We spent an afternoon there summer of 2015 and were met with a police officer who threatened us with a Class 2 trespassing charge (or something like that). Luckily it was a really hot day; and he stopped us in 4:30 blazing sunshine. He looked really uncomfortable in his uniform, Kevlar vest, etc. and let us go after making us sweat (literally and figuratively).

I'm glad I saw it when I did then.

It's a long drive so I can't check it out but I'm not sure tbh. I have heard mixed reviews and. rumors.

First of all, God, I love this place. I spent two years coming here as often as I could manage because there's just so much to explore (I lived within biking distance).

Sorry for raising your thread from the dead, but I'm really excited to see your pictures because it looks like you made it into the buildings on the side of the campus I never got into (too many demolition workers on the property).

They've been slowly demolishing it for the past 15+ years to make room for sustainable housing, some of which is right over the hill past the water tower and already has people living in it.

It's a bummer that it's being torn down, but they seem to be taking their sweet time with it. I'd love to see it one more time before it all comes down. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Ah thats the Fairview Training Center near Salem! I went there many times back when I was in high school. Unfortunately they've been slowly tearing down the buildings over the years so there isn't much remaining. The property has a really dark history of mistreatment of the people who lived there along with eugenics testing and sterilization.

It takes a while because of all the asbestos. Oregon has really funky laws on how to dispose of it. I worked as a security guard for an abandoned property in Troutdale that was being demolished and just to clear one room of asbestos would take several days due to regulations of how its handled and disposed of. It wound up taking 3-4 months to clear a 3 story house of asbestos. Imagine how long somewhere like FTC would take with all the massive buildings.

I saw that place on my trip last month. I didn't stop in because I had read about the demo.

Glad you got to see and shoot it before it's totally gone!
