Yeah, it was shitty, but at least I finally got to see the basement. I'd rather not be $200 poorer but I'm grateful I wasn't treated like a punk vandal, or a terrorist.

Side note, if anyone took the photo albums from this place hit me up. I'm very curious about them.

Personally i have been arrested 4 times, all for assault, 2 aggravated, spent the night in jail once. 2 of them took a year in court to clear up.

I think because of my past experience with the police, that the trespassing accusations will not scare me too much. Maybe stay calm enough to fib my away out of it.

Well that escalated quickly Kinda makes me feel like the baby on the playground with my paltry array of trespassing charges.

Don't get too complacent with the cops though - it doesn't matter what you did; it matters what they think you did. So as soon as they run your name and see charges like that, they won't be nearly so nice to you, and will question your motive for being there. True even if you were acquitted, because they're not risking their safety on the off chance you got off on a technicality. Also what did you do to make two of them aggravated? I'm a little skeptical that your hands are totally clean myself...

Don't just pay the fine. Threaten to fight it in court, you can usually take a plea and haggle the prosecutor down by a fair bit. Other than the fine, I'd say your encounter ended about as well as it could though.

I took a couple photos... I wish I took the whole thing when I first found it. There were pictures from the company picnics, Christmas parties, a few from some road trip that 4 employees took, and a bunch of some Japanese guys touring the factory.

I'm never going to leave delicate items inside a building ever again... Between this, that chemical factory, and Solvay Coke, I've learned my lesson. Too much cool history has been lost forever.

For many years I worked the door is some bad places. In my first aggravated assault, i was jumped by 4 guys, the football player of the group rushed my legs, i sidestepped, and helped his head into the wall.

In court i stayed very calm and respectful, and the judge obviously saw that they were out for trouble, even being arrogant in court.

It was still one year of stress and trouble.

The second one, was a guy, that i kicked out, that ended up being the nephew of one of the most prominent lawyers in the city, i spent the night in jail.

All i did was spin him around and drag him outside, this was after he took a swing at me. He claimed i hurt his knee.

Another year of court that i ended up winning, if anything it taught me a little who the system works and how to talk to police and judges to win my points.

Often charges are pressed because the person wants to sue for money after...With time in court if you stay calm and ask the right questions, it comes up.

At work i have been stabbed with a butcher knife, hit with a steel bar on my head, had a 9mm in my face, countless death threats , had to settle things with bikers in abandoned warehouses, not fun meetings.

The guy with the butcher knife, i bent his arm 90 degrees the opposite way your joint bends, slowly, him i really wanted to hurt. The guy with the steel bar , was going to do the same, but a biker that knew me well, pleaded that i didn't , the guy worked for him.

I was on the national team in judo, and i have 5 pro fights in MMA, my fight stats are on sherdog. just to say, that i never hurt anybody for nothing. I was not a jerk, i was there to make money and laugh. would talk for a hour if i could avoid trouble, and if it had to get physical, i rarely ever hit,I didn't need to, i could control them easily with my grappling.

All this, and it is a small fraction, to say, that it gave me a bit of experience to know the system, or at least how to react within it. Because there is tons i still dont know.

Most non-written history is lost over the centuries. For one there isn't room for none functional items if they don't fall apart on there own.
You'll end up with a house full of junk that someone will throw out when you die unless you make provisions for your museum including funds.

Had Kippy had done that he might have burglary charges added.
Just not worth the trouble unless it means something to you personally.

Wow. That is quite the life you lead! I guess I'm so used to sheltered middle-class people on this site that I forgot about places like your work. Keep up the good fight!

My house is already full of junk I don't need :p. Just a little too sentimental I guess, and I'm a sucker for local history.

I suppose you're right, though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know how you feel I think, if you do it long and well enough they may even turn your house into a museum, but that is rare.
The older you get, the more of burden it becomes... especially when you have to move. Worse it distracts you when exploring and makes everything more complicated.
All rules can be broken but my primary rule when it comes to exploring is take only images. It has saved my ass more than once. If arrested they will search everything... cops are curious bastards

I luckily have mostly good experiences with security and law enforcement. I have bet let off most of the time with a warning, or a trespass notice. Told never to the building again.

I once got caught on the rooftop of a residential building in NYC. The security was more concerned about the fact that we managed to get passed the rest of the security team and not the fact that we were on the roof haha.

I have had one bad experience with a few cops at a hospital in New York State. After spending way too much time at this location, while exploring the last and biggest building all the sudden we heard sirens and people yelling in megaphones. I thought about trying to run, but I was with a few other people and i wasnt willing to leave them behind. We walked out of the building with our heads down. After being drilled with questions for about 20 minutes, I was miraculously let go with a parking ticket and told to tell everyone I know to never go there. I havent been backed since.

You know I'm also fairly new and have only been to 5 or 6 sites and most of them were fairly abandoned so nobody cared. But one or two have been risky and I've only had one scare with police, well, actually base security. So here is the story,

I live near an active US Air Force Base and spend a lot of time running around on base and exploring. There isn't much to see on the base, but while exploring I happened upon an old section of the base from the 1940s and 50s that is mostly abandoned or used as storage. The area I had stumbled upon was an old barracks that had been used by different groups such as boy scouts up to about 2011, guessing by the dates that were still sketched up on the boards. Well, anyway, after spending about an hour going through these old barracks buildings and one larger maintenance shop, ( my guess based on the building construction ), I decided to leave. I had one last building to go through that was an old Chemical Training building, but decided not to because I didn't have a flashlight on me ( rookie mistake I know, also didn't plan on Urbex that day), so I began walking back towards my car. As I got in and was driving out I noticed a little guard house I figured would be neat, and only take a second to look at. So I parked the car and at that same moment I happened to look over my shoulder to the left and what was coming down the road, only the base Security Forces. I decided to stay in the car and wait for them to pass, then dash. I wasn't sure why they were there, as I believe nothing I did, minus the chem building and maintenance shop were locked buildings, but the government doesn't need much reason to act. The SF truck drove by slow and turned into where I had just left, and as he did I drove away and out the back gate to continue with my day elsewhere.

Not really a run in, but as of now that's the closest I've been to potential trouble with law. I'm going to try to put up a thread on the picture forum of the pictures I took there, it wasn't much but it was unique.

Active bases fall under federal trespassing laws.
Up to a $10G fine and 5 years in federal prison.
A retainer alone for an attorney in a criminal federal case will run you $6G.

Be careful... don't dime yourself out.
It's happened here before... more then once.

First off, welcome! I left a comment on your log entry as well.

Since you're new here, I figured I'd make a suggestion I wish someone had made to me sooner regarding the photo posts: Use a third party and link it. The quality will be better and it is easier to do, IMO. I use Flickr, but I'm guessing the other sites are just as easy. On Flickr, just grab the BB code in Medium format, copy-and-paste it into your post, and you're good to go.

It's also a great way to shamelessly self-promote all those other awesome shots you might have too.

Worst I've gotten was just a warning not to do it again and pretty much to get the hell out of there,.. which we did.
I retired from urbexing years ago..mostly when i was a teen, so i didn't get caught so much.

Hello, new here. Some of y'all have some intense stories. I've been exploring a little over a year now and haven't been caught yet. Well, there was an old abandoned bridge out in the country I was crossing when an elderly lady told me to turn back. And another time I I was snapping some photos of an old church, the neighbors stepped outside and watched me until I left. At some fabric factory in Tennessee I was on the second floor when we ran point blank into SOMEONE. Don't know if it was a cop. We heard dogs barking while we ran out, but the guy never said a thing.

I'm also pretty new at this so I haven't had any run ins with the actual cops, but I have had a conversation with security guards at a state school though. The first time a friend and I were walking around the outside of a building and security drove by us and waved, after not seeing them for awhile we decided to chance it and go into a building. Literally not even two minutes after going into the building he parked right outside and shut his car off. We went and hid on the second floor of the building where we had a view of his car and ended up waiting him out for a little over a half hour. He drove off and we booked it out of the building, after getting out he drove up to us and asked where we had gone and my friend came up with a story about how we were in the back of the buildings taking pictures for her photography class. Luckily he didn't ask to see them!
The second time (same location, different day) my friend and I had only been walking around the outside for a few minutes when security pulled up to us and asked what we were doing. This was a different security guard than the first time so my friend gave the same excuse about taking pictures for her photography class. We ended up talking to this guy for a good 40 minutes though and he was really nice! He told us how dangerous the buildings were though and said it wasn't good to go in but since we looked like "good kids" he told us he would turn around if we happened to go into a building we just had to make sure he didn't see us go in or out, so I suppose we lucked out that day!

I've been to quite a few locations but have never had a run in with police or security..and i don't wanna change that anytime soon. My closest "runin" was probably with a tenant at an apartment my friend and I were parked and ready to enter a location from. He threatened to call the police on us unless we left..he barely spoke English lol but we weren't about to chance it.

I have had many run-ins with the authorities while exploring. Two times I actually got arrested for burglary. One of them was particularly bad. It ended up costing me about $8,000 and my reputation for work in that area (I work freelance and a lot of people in the area wont work with me anymore because of it).

The repercussions of this hobby can be much worse than people think.
