Animal Crackers, an abandoned children's store Hooksett < on 5/10/2017 11:15 PM > | Reply with Quote
Peering gloomily over route 3 through Hooksett, NH is this beat down old yellow building with a faded painted sign that says "Animal Crackers". It's a shell of a building that has been vulgarly vandalized since its abandonment in the late 90's. My girlfriend and I were passing by it and decided to pull over and check it out more closely and found some really eerie old children's toys, books and articles of clothing scattered about inside and out.
We checked the perimeter of the property more before entering and found outside of a few neighbors I never saw and being on a busy road there aren't any challenges entering.
Upon entering the place looks just as bad, if not worse on the inside than the out. A lot of the walls are smashed through or badly graffitied and belongings are thrown about.
Most of the floors were sturdy enough to walk on though the second floor was a little shifty. The bathroom being the worst of it was almost completely rotted through and all porcelain inside was smashed. The basement seemed accessible with some perseverance, but we didn't venture down there. Stairs on the inside were completely ripped out and the bulkhead seemed sketchy to climb down into. It didn't seem particularly worth it for the lack of things down there. There was also a hole up to the attic but it was extremely small and had no way up sadly.
After doing some research I found out this was a children's consignment store that was closed in the late 90's which explains all the children's toys and clothing. The original owner recently passed away, and the current property owner is looking into making it a possible apartment and wants to demolish the place.
