Dallas Explorer looking for meetups
< on 3/15/2017 1:48 AM >

Posted on Forum: UER Forum
Ive explored all the areas I've come across here in the local dallas area with friends and family and looking to meet some people that are specifically interested in the urbex community. I get monthly messages on here for a dallas/fortworth meetup but it seems to be not in use :/ Looking for direction to another or towards anyone interested. i'm eager to see/film some new places

Or better yet since it's abandoned you could explore it, take some photos and report back!

Also, you live in the best place in the state to go exploring, if you find someone to explore with you will be amazed by what is in your city. Hope you aren't discouraged by spending time in south fair park.

I've been toying with the idea of asking around here about moving the meet-ups from the Dallas Oakcliff area to somewhere in Fort Worth or mid-cities. I'm literally dead center of both Fort Worth and Dallas, but it's been my impression that there seem to be more active locals a little further west than where we've had these meet-ups scheduled. Plus, there is a lot more to explore in Tarrant County (it seems to be where most if not all of the "urbex staple locations" seem to dwell). I think Fort Worth is better for newbies because of the several better known, yet still interesting locations to choose from.
Basically, there are a lot of really active people in DFW, so I think we must be doing this meet-up thing wrong.

Now that I can see I have yet again wandered off topic, I think this might be worthy of a new thread, so stay tuned.

I live in Austin, but usually drive about 3 to 4 hrs out on the weekend. Let me know if y'all ever plan a trip. I go by myself typically and there are a couple places i think it would be better to have someone else there.

Awesome. I also use the system's automatic update to remind me. Unfortunately, the system can't tell me if or when anyone plans on actually showing up to one of the meet ups!

I live in Denton and I've been to a lot of the places in Fort Worth, such as the power plant downtown. I joined to see if there were meet ups so I could make some ux friends, so I'd be interested if some other people were down to have meet ups.

PM me and maybe I can hook you up with some locals in the near future.

Things got busy, but I've been meaning to try to see how many people would be interested in moving the meet-up to Fort Worth or maybe somewhere in between the D and the FW (mid-cities). The Dallas locations haven't taken off lately and I only know of two or three people that have gone out there, including myself, in the last year and a half or so.

Another benefit of Fort Worth is that there are lots of good, diverse beginner spots for any newbies that might show up. Not so much in Dallas to my knowledge.

If y'all can come to any kind of consensus on a date time & location etc I will add the meet up to the event system for you.

I'm a little late on the reply to this, but I'm a fellow Dentonite explorer who's always looking for some folks. My schedule is a little busy most of the time, but I'm trying to carve out more time this year for explores.

There are certainly some folks around this area who are down to hit up spots and have a great bit of knowledge about the North Texas area (and beyond) locations.

How about the same time, but at the Stockyards? There's a good little burger joint down there called the Love Shack. It's local, cheap, and there are a few spots to explore nearby if anyone is up to it. Otherwise, we could do something closer to the mid-cities if any Dallas folks don't want to drive to Fort Worth. Any thoughts?

I'm flexible with the time, but we could change it if Saturdays at noon doesn't work for y'all.

Well, it's not a requirement per se, but it would be really great if we could get these meet-ups back in force again. I know there are plenty of active local explorers, so no excuses, people! In the interest of our local membership (but even non-locals are welcome!), I'm making an executive decision for the greater collective good of North Texans everywhere. It's time to resurrect our dying monthly Saturday meet-ups, and it's Fort Worth's turn to shine.

Change is good.

I'm all for Dallas' tunnels, drains, and cranes, but I quit going to these things quite a while ago after growing tired of being the only one at Chicken Scratch in Oak Cliff trying to appear natural while staring my flashlight for an hour. As far as I can tell, we've all become flakey and boring and this must be stopped before the damage to our camaraderie and sense of adventure is untreatable and irreversible.

I'm exaggerating a little, obviously, but the only reason I'm throwing out a new location and venue is because no one else has taken the initiative to do so. I literally live smack dab in the middle of Fort Worth and Dallas, but chose Fort Worth because there seems to be;

1. More active members on that side of DFW,

2. Locations seem to be more plentiful and suitable for everyone from noobs to old timers (I can think of half a dozen within walking distance of the Stockyards that are pretty interesting and diverse enough for everyone to join in on the fun times to be had).

Let's see if we can actually get this thing going. I'll talk to an admin (cough, cough, ahem...) about changing the location to the Stockyards and let's plan on starting back up the first Saturday of next month (i.e. July 1st, 2017... Canada Day!) at noon, same as the Dallas one was scheduled. There is a simple, casual, cheap hamburger joint on Exchange street called the Love Shack. If you're under 21 and worried about getting into a bar, I have good news. The Love Shack feed you for about $5.00-$7.00 regardless of your age. If the place totally blows or someone feels ambitious and wants to change this up, by all means, feel free to do so. Honestly, I'm just doing this because no one else has.

Currently, I don't see anything coming up that would prohibit me from going, and I'll try my best to keep that whole day free - especially for the first meet-up in Fort Worth. Hopefully, some of y'all will show this time! I'll just plan on exploring something either way just in case no one shows so that I won't be devastated at having spent my Saturday afternoon alone, forlorn, staring awkwardly at a flashlight in some local burger joint.

This is as close to a welcome mat as you're going to get.
Come on, people... wake up and smell the asbestos!
Do your part!
RSVP in the event calendar right now!

See you guys on Saturday July 1st at the Love Shack!
- Dee

If an admin would be so kind as to help us make this happen... we would all be very grateful.
Gracias and thank you.

Yay!

Awesome. I've only been there once, but I remember the burgers being pretty good, especially for the price bracket.
