Hey guys I'm new to this forum and to Calgary. I have done some draining in Edmonton, but have a place in mind I wanted to check out this weekend. Let me know if any of you are interested in meeting up. If Saturday doesn't work let's arrange a plan.

Cory

So i just moved here not long ago from victoria bc, havent seen a whole lot of posts from calgary on here. where would be some cool places to go exploring? i feel like their might be some interesting places around inglewood. ive also heard of a tunnel the c-train was originally supposed to run through downtown, anyone know anything about this?

Yes, infact me and some friends were planning to scout around and try to find a way in. I know its sounds stupid and impossible, but it is a goal that we want to attain. I am fairly new to urban exploring, and to this site, but hopefully with the help of this community we can work together to find locations in Calgary.

Also, not too long ago me and my buddies managed to find a way into Mc Mahon stadium. The big red football stadium? yeah, that one. It is fairly easy to access and very cool once inside.

I would provide images of the stadium for proof but they were shot in RAW format, so the file size is too damn big.

If anyone is reading this, if you're still here, feel free to reply.
regards,

Niko

Feel free to export JPGs from Photoshop or Lightroom or Gimp or something, then you can use flickr or even Imgur to share. The site also accepts smaller JPGs, see this post for more info.

Hi Themayor! Welcome to the forum

Do you have anything you've found before? Wandering, going on local folklore etc?

There are a few active folks in Alberta, most of us tend to hibernate through the winter months, but spring's a-comin'! Not long now ;)

Feel free to message any of the peeps who seem active in the last season or so who you might be interested in meeting or exploring with. We don't bite.

Hey Sparro, there are a few things, a friend and I cruised around the old Molson brewery a number of years ago, we could not find a way in but we got a couple what I think are decent shots. My wife and I stumbled into the Aylyth (sp?) yard last year as well, but we have recently had a kid and there really has not been a ton of time and the winter doesn't help either. I was piqued because I found a couple blogs from around the Calgary area, and going through some old family things I found some cool Indiginous stuff from way back. I would like to one day check out the old South Calgary Airport at the end of Dunbow Rd. My buddies and I used to race our motorcycles around there and I always thought it would be neat to check it out, never have though.

I figure it's not worth making my own thread for this, so I'll just step in here.

I'm new to the community! I'm going to be active in Calgary through the summer, and I'd love to meet up and head out exploring. Most of my interest is in storm drains, mines, and fire lookouts. I've only done a tiny bit of draining--just enough to make me want more!

Looking forward to getting to know you guys over the summer. It'd be pretty cool if anybody wanted to meet up, too. I'm very respectful of abandonments, but I'm not very good at finding them.

I wanna go visit an old explore but need someone to come with. A little experience in being prepared, committed and generally sneaky is preferred. Send me a PM if you're in Calgary and want to tag along.

Hi everyone! Me again.

The Calgary section of the Southern Alberta meet is happening this Saturday, August 12th [and likely into Sunday]. If you're interested in draining for the first time, seeing some local spots or meeting the current Alberta crew, come along! Just post here or PM me.

So, RIP the Shamrock Hotel.

(Interestingly, I learned from this video that the adjacent Lilydale plant will likely see the same fate as they clear way for a new line of Calgary's LRT. Link to check out what USED to be there on Google Street View here.)

See its DB entry here.

In order to keep with the seemingly high rate of productivity up in Edmonton, Nicknolte and I headed out last night to scout some things, check progress, etc. Two sites that we had scouted / entered before are now piles of rubble.. for a recession, this city is sure turning things around quickly!

More things will open up I'm sure, but last night we also observed the most tightly-sealed location I've ever seen. Blackout lexan panels are individually screwed around each window (with what looks like loctite or something similar) in addition to plywood behind that, and another layer of plywood inside the building. We've been on the roof and found zero possibility of access from up there, too. It's an old commercial building - I won't say what, but it's the size of probably 6-8 houses and currently owned by the city. Nicknolte and I were just stumped about how you'd even start to think about getting inside. More to come on this one later, hopefully.

Anyway! I will now leave you with a photo of the only thing I have left from the Shamrock.

Hope you're all having a great December!

Isn't the Shamrock where you sent me the night I was in Calgary?? Next to the smelly chicken place? Would you believe I actually did go there but felt like perhaps I might impale myself on the fence getting in. ;)

I actually just wimped out LOL

It certainly was!

I actually spotted a new bando on my way home tonight, I'll have to discuss with nicknolte. More of this weird development / gentrification / wealth squeezing associated with expansion of city infrastructure.

I've found a couple new ones too that seem to pop up in weird places. They sure don't last long though. I hit up a farmhouse not far from where I live yesterday. I didn't even go in. The floor looked like a giant hell hole.

Gotta take advantage of this awesome weather though!

Have any of you mothertruckers been in Molson's lately?

*not looking for an entrance, or handholding, or anything. Haven't seen my crew in many years and just wondering if people are still hittin' the old girl.

Only 13 yrs on UER? Probably some noob looking for POEs.

Yeah never been - was told A: difficult af and B: not worth it

C: Full of birb poo?

While we're talking Calgary, they levelled the SE Downtown Arby's (it sat empty for a couple years), as well as the CBC building on Memorial. Surprised that place couldn't find a better tenant.. also sad that someone deemed it worth more money as infills or whatever. Pfft.

Hey Nicknolte.... were we wearing blindfolds in August/September of last year? How did those get away?
