It didn't smell any worse in there than most of the places I go. If you're from this area you've probably heard of the place. It's a pretty sad story how it came to be like that. Even sadder that someone would do something like that to the memory of other's relatives and loved ones.

Going to the first location this Wednesday! You captured some great pics. So sad to see that someone destroyed the Mary statue though.

Sad but apparently that's true.

Very. Not sure how the place has become so popular but it was like a photography convention there last weekend. Ran into more people there than I have anyplace, ever. I would imagine that means it will go downhill fast.

Of course someone felt the need to knock her over and smash her. I don't like to touch or move things anywhere but in this case I picked her back up. Jesus is hiding somewhere in the attic and of course someone felt the need to smash him too, but if you find him he has snacks !

I was told by a friend that the caretaker and the police have been notified of the shenanigans that have been going on in this location and that they're keeping a closer eye on it. Who knows if that's at all true. I actually saw a facebook acquaintance post photos of this place with location info in the description ::FACEPALM:: I sent them a PM explaining why this isn't cool and they quickly took it down but it's stuff like that that gets these places wrecked :/

The photo with the extracted coffin should be sent to the police and/or the local paper. That shit is not cool and the place (and those people) need to be protected.

Based on where that is, I can't see how the caretakers wouldn't already know. It's probably fixed at this stage. Still horrible.

Some idiot on IG posted a picture of the mausoleum that had graffiti with the name of the city, I found it in minutes based on that. Luckily it doesn't seem clear to read in your pics

Honestly it's horrible the state this place has been left in to begin with. The person who was supposed to be caring for it did nothing to keep it up in over a decade and the $$ in the account to be used for it is magically empty. They don't know what to do with the over 500 bodies buried there, no one is allowed to visit their loved one's remains because of the condition this place is in and they can't figure out who is responsible for the burden of reburying these people so its just staying the way it is. Even people who WANT to pay for reburying their loved ones can't because the building is too unsafe for them to extract a body. The whole situation is a mess.

That's all true. That place has been in the news a few times lately. Pictures of that coffin have been all over the internet too. The city has been looking for help to get the remains out but more often than not it has come down to the families being forced to pay 5 or 6 thousand dollars to have their relative removed and interred somewhere else and apparently most don't have that kind of money laying around. Then of course there's the fact that the building has been condemned. Or so I read.

Sad situation no matter how you look at it.

Even though the place has already been on the news I still wouldn't disclose it's location publicly. I'm usually pretty careful about publishing pictures with identifying information in them. Just wish everybody else felt the same way.

What is that black stuff on the floor in the last picture?
Hopefully something is done soon to prevent further damage. This reminds me of the other place posted on here a year or two ago where the caskets were left behind.

I don't care if you hijack my thread or not bud. I love your shots. #4 is killer. Aside from the broken statues there wasn't a lot of vandalism there. The majority of damage is from water infiltration. The older parts of the building are in horrible condition. I saw a notice posted on the garage out back that demo of the building had been postponed so it's probably not to much longer for this world. Shame because it's a beautiful structure but definitely not salvageable.
