Something fascinates me about an object that will kill you just from being in the same room as it. And to make it better it's in the basement of an abandoned nuclear reactor! Maybe when I'm 106 years old and my wife is dead I'll go look at it.

If I could get the isotope composition and initial strength I'd figure out a rough estimate of when it's cool enough to get in visual range, but alas...

That's why I like urbex - its kinda like in the movies, as a person has an almost hallucination of what happened at one point. As I stand in a ruined area, my imagination goes a bit nuts as I imagine what went on, almost seeing it around me.

Maybe I should have worn a filter earlier.

I'm the same. I'm not in it for the adrenaline rush of trespassing or anything, I'm in it for the immersion of the whole activity. That's why I hate it when a place is tagged to shit, ruins the immersion for me.

#9 in that 1st floor is all the welding stations to teach people to weld. And on the wall is tagged "re-elect Jimmy Carter."

Stellar pictures! Love them all. 20 is especially interesting a perspective of the place I had not yet seen. I may have been there myself. At night! It may have taken me like three attempts/scout nights to actually get the balls to go for it. But the third day which I actually made it "inside" it was actually quite nice, cause I had some light like you. I really want to go back SF bad. Got a lot of missed stuffs to get done. Picture 22 of the enlisted barracks is super. I really wanted to get to that part of the compound but actually was intimidated and turned around when I encountered the scary radiation warning signs. Picture 8 "The big blue factory" Super! I really sort of wink wink want to get back there really soon! I just got to get a car! Once Geico actually mails me the check for my totaled vehicle at their fault!

Okay maybe a lot of rambling^ my apology :-/

Here are a couple pictures I got of the place! Probably a good place for me to post them!

Can't seem to remember where this last pic was taken. Must have been not that great. Hopefully from the same place. Found the picture within an album I got on my mac saved as the name of the same place. What ever.

I'm thinking about going here, how high do you guys think the risk is for any health affects, now or down the line. Just trying to asses the risk/reward.

Don't play in the dirt, watch-out for the local Bayview/Hunter's Point savages.

The cleanup is not going on near the buildings but more in the beach areas. Shouldn't be too dangerous considering the steps they go to prevent the soil from going into the air.

Yeah, the only reason I am concerned is because they have already obviously tried to cover up the contamination that they said was under control. :\

Gotta wonder whats up with the dead bird room. And who it is that goes in and cleans it up now and then.

Same bldg, there are those holes in the ground marked radioactive. First time I was there I freaked myself out thinking that the monitoring equipment wasn't there when we went in...until I looked through my pix and realized it was.

Anyone have any info on the "roaming guards" mentioned in the first post? Are they rent a cops or do they spend 24/7 there?

I've seen them both during the day and at night, sometimes up to 3 separate trucks patrolling the property.

Hello. So yesterday I visited Hunters Point. As I said in my original post it was quite dark and without a decent camera the amount of pictures is quite low. A few snippets of info Id like to point out. The security company stationed there is A1 Security. They have a badge checkpoint in Parcel A as well as a few points inside the actual dock notably at the south tip of parcel E as well as the northern point of parcel G. We noticed 2 roaming cars, however I have no doubt there is a 3rd as above posters have stated. They have flashing yellow lights on their roof that didnt seem to turn off and thus avoiding them, especially at night, is quite easy. The main point to make is that if you go STAY OFF THE MAIN ROADS. Stick between buildings and dont stay in the open. Because if a car turns the corner at the wrong time and sees you your gonna have a bad day. Towards the later hours of the night the cars seemed to stop at certain spots and just stay there. I dont blame them. Who wants to patrol an abandoned dock for hours? Unless you go along the main road you are going to encounter quite a few fences. The most annoying one being between parcel G and E. This fence has no cross bars and the fact that it was raining hard made it not very fun. We originally planned to climb the crane however the combo of rain and severe winds made my more sensible nature come out. A final note. We wore tyvek suits and p100 respirators. This was most likely (definitely) overkill for the radiation there, however it was quite funny to look at us climbing walls in full garb. I got a kick out of it and for anyone who likes immersion..... you'll feel like your in Chernobyl running from the Russians hahahah.

Decided to go back again but during the day time. The goal was to get a better look at things. We thought we could be sneaky. Navy security had other plans. It was still a nice place during the day all things considered. And yes before anyone asks my world is constantly sideways. Don't ask.
Cool shot through some binoculars.
