Seems I am coming across these left and right!

I actually first visited this one a while back, but at the time did not have a flashlight or any other gear that I deemed essential. So today I took Peptic's advice from 7-2-16:

Go check out that school.

Today I revisited it and was able to get more than three steps inside. There were still a lot of spiders. But I only saw two stinging death flying bugs.

The original school was down the road a bit in the original settlement established in 1890. The school building pictured was built in 1920. In 1909 the railroads were routed, bypassing the community, most of the inhabitants moved to where the featured school is located. This place had many "You are not welcome" signs, and appears to have been turned into a house, so I just performed a quick stop and snap.

The school I focused on was originally a high school, but then served as an elementary school. A co worker of mine went to school there. I might try to get some information from him after the holidays. He did mention that it was reported to be haunted. I saw no ghosts.

Another thing that I saw very little of was evidence of vandals. There were a few broken windows, but I do not recall seeing any graffiti. One of the nicer places I have visited!

19. Part of the school now houses the volunteer fire department. This area was locked up, but I did not try too hard. The other buildings were locked up well.

Wow, how long has this place been closed? It's probably one of the few times I've seen a gymnasium where the floor wasn't either warped or collapsed.

Is the place just shuttered it seems unusual for that much stuff to be left in the building. Nice pics

Nice pic of the exterior #2 and cool hallway shot #7. Like the two girls from the track team walking together and the title ... A Good Friend Never Lets You Down.

There was a trophy that I saw that was from 2002. It was around that time I believe that the school was closed and the students started attending in a newer campus in the next community. I was surprised to see the floor in that good condition. I'm thinking about taking a push broom next time I go to clean it off.

A lot of the rooms were pretty empty. I am always amazed at some of the stuff that gets left behind though. So many trophies, photos and such all over the place.

Thanks! I was not too keen on a lot of my photos. The lighting was all over the place and was kicking my ass. I can handle pitch black, or full light, but both at the same time!

I loved the poster too! I missed it the first time I went into that room, had to go back because I had my focus set to manual and did not realize it.

What an awesome gym!
It still amazes me how many things are just abandoned where they sit. No one thought to reuse those old desks or anything...

Picture 15, "Fake Money" is great.
I love the colors. It looks newer than the rest of the place.

How did you avoid run ins with the volunteer fire department since they were so close?
