Here's an interesting little slice of Fort Worth History that pulls the classic "Layer and old photo over a new one for comparison" method of looking at the past. This time, however, with an interactive map.

It's interesting to see how much that town has changed from the turn of last century to now. Sometimes it's a bit bittersweet when you see some of the great buildings that are no longer with us (so there could be a parking lot, or some other nonsense).

That is something I have always found interesting too, I lived in Houston most of my life and can remember when there was no Sam Houston Toll Way and you could take HWY 6 all the way to Alvin with out any stop light because, well, it was a highway back then. Funny thing also, I remember once, you would "leave" Houston, drive a little ways before you reached Katy, the same thing with Sugarland, Humble, and even the Woodlands, now it is all just one big blob of city.

I love these kinds of maps. I've found a few "mashables" for google (and some bing) that are similar. They are also very poignant when layering before and after a disaster, like Katrina for instance.
