While my wife was getting her hair did this past Saturday I decided to go rambling a bit. I often love to just drive around and pull over at whatever catches my eye. My eye was caught a few times in a few hours, and I also stopped by one location I had been wanting to check out, but was unable to find a way in.


So this is your warning, if you are looking for great interior pictures of abandoned places this is not the thread for you, turn back now, there be monsters here.

First place I had pulled over at was an old service station. All locked up, no entry that I could see. Still love the building though.

Just down the highway was an old restaurant that had closed down in the past year. I always wanted to eat there, but never made the time to drive over and try it out. The inside of the place was full of knick-knacks, it looked like it was set up for a rummage sale. Only picture I liked a little was one of the Christmas stuff in the window, in a couple of youtube channels I watch the explorers often mention that they often come across christmas decorations.

Next stop was an old Coca Cola building, not sure what went on here. But it was sealed up tight. Every opening was boarded up, any door not boarded had new deadbolts installed. THe (very busy) post office was across one street, and the Police Station was across the side street so I did not poke around much.

What is next on this amazing journey? Well, I did find one open building in this little town. Looked like a warehouse, but whatever it used to house is long gone. But I did grab a few shots from there. Pretty empty except for the Frozen DVD, and the anti bullying literature. These two things had me quite curious.

Final stop was at the local airport. Back in the World War II days it was a military base complete with barracks. To be honest I am not sure the history of the buildings, I think they were added post WWII, just from the architecture of them I would put them around the 1950s. There are two of the buildings, one was re-purposed as a home for children for a while, but has been closed for a few years. There is still electricity on int hat building and signs of life around, such as fresh cigarettes in the ash can. The other looks to have been left alone fore years. Besides one thing, the excellent job done boarding and locking the place up. GRRRRRRRR Doors were all bolted, some were chained, some had the doorknobs removed and were dead bolted from the inside with no lock on the outside. Some were screwed and bolted shut, and every window was sealed up and in tact. All but one, a small window in one of the doors was broken out, enough to give me a big tease of the inside. From the graffiti there was access at least at one time, but it looks like it was a while back.

This is usually what my explores look like. Probably not real exciting, but I love just driving around and checking places out. I do plan to get access into that old dormitory (prolly a better word than barracks.) There is a lot of activity around there, it is on airport property. But one of these days!! When that happens I will have better history to share about it.

Liked the first one and you are right about the stair shot, it is NICE. Ya know, I'm just surprised from your pics that there was actually an unabandoned hair salon in this town for your wife to get her hair done. lol.
