Long time no post on here for me. Me and my daughter had some free time on our hands, so we headed a few blocks down the street and went to Woodman's. This place is super trashed out and not very interesting, but it's good practice for her to try out her camera, and I get to make awful videos like this one.

This is my second video ever, and I shot it and edited it all on my phone, so yeah... probably not going to win any awards for cinematography, but maybe some of you will enjoy it.

Absolutely has. Sherman has been hit with some pretty bad straight line winds recently, and that pretty much finished off the roof. I'm really surprised the place is still standing, because it's in one of the more progressive parts of town, and I'm sure the land is desirable to developers.

I understood the new owner(s) of the property (some lawyer) had plans to knock it down and build some yuppie homes on the land. (10yrs or so ago)

Housing market went soft right after that and has never really come back, home ownership is at an all time low.

Timing is everything I reckon. Glad y'all made it in and out with the video too thanks. (the rabbit scene was pretty cool)

I love Woodman's, despite the ever crumbling nature of the place. Looking at the video...it's gotten worse just in the last six months or so since I've been there, sadly. I could tell in the "Thank You for Being a Friend" graffiti that had been beat to hell, which was in "good" shape when I went. (can taggers ever really leave anything in good shape?)

I have never understood the absolute destruction of things for fun. I mean, I was a little shit as a teenager...but I never just busted up stuff for grins.

It's a nice video, man. I like the soundtrack and the innocent little bunny.

Hey thanks guys. It was just a fun little video. My daughter wants to be famous on Instagram, so I gave my D7200 to her, and I'm left shooting with an iPhone... ah well.

As for the destruction of the place, I'm not from Sherman, but I've lived here for 3 years now and met people who have lived here their whole lives, and they tell me that the police used to patrol the property fairly aggressively, but now nobody really cares since the roof is pretty much gone. The first time I went here was maybe 7 years ago, and it's night and day from then until now.

I hate to be a downer, but I've heard, from multiple sources, that the owner is very worried about liability and will prosecute trespassers. I've also head that he lives nearby, or has an employee who lives nearby. If your gonna go there be super careful,

I've heard the same, that is, the current owner will not hesitate to prosecute.

Semi-related:
There's a house i've been looking at that has been empty for a long time, but is near enough a developing neighborhood that it's on a busy street. As a result, the owner has put up a sign offering a reward for people reporting trespassers.

I bring this up because when I went to Woodman's earlier this year, I could swear some of the people living in the apartment complex next door were calling cops on me. Luckily, it was as I was leaving not as i was getting there...so, it wasn't really an issue. But, yeah...be careful. Some of these folks might be paid spotters for the owner and you wouldn't know until it was too late.

I'm not trying to start an argument with anyone, but trust me when I tell you that the last thing anyone at those apartments wants is cops coming around. You will get a contact high walking from one end of the parking lot to the other.

Also, I pass by Woodman's at least 5 times a week and it's not unusual to see people walking their dog on the property or posing for a picture on the front porch.

What you both said is true, it's always good to be cautious, but I really just don't think anyone cares that much about this place any more, and I doubt if the cops enjoy responding to trespassing calls any more since the owner hasn't repaired the hole in the wooden fence, fixed the unlocked gate, or tried to repair any of the other 30 points of entry directly leading into this place that pretty much scream COME TRESSPASS HERE to visitors.

EDIT: I looked around and some articles, and sure enough, everything I've read says that police actively stop, ticket, and arrest any trespassers on the property. All I can tell you is what I see every day as I drive around Sherman. So who knows... just be careful I guess.

Jesus, I just read what I wrote, and it really came across as "Let the big time local tell you about what REALLY goes on." My apologies for sounding like an asshat. I'm really not like that. You guys are right. Carry on.

Back in 2005, Internet chatter prior to that had people getting arrested, gun shots being fired and the ghost busters tales of, ghosts and stuff. Most of which made little or no sense, the article I read about trespassers being prosecuted was written by a Sherman resident, who may or may not know what she was talking about. Yay! for the Internet.

I had linked at one point a web forum support group for screwed up former members of the religious cult that lived there last. Quite a bit of good info was available if, screwed up former members of a cult can be believed.

Can I just say that this is pretty much the vibe i got there? Ha ha.
The lady looking at my funny from her phone may have just been calling her dealer to ask if I was the guy she was supposed to meet for her "medicine".

On the serious, I spent about two or three hours there and only saw other people...not cops.

And you're right about the access to that place. There are no shortages of places with which to take a few pics. In fact, i learned of others just sitting there gathering my equipment watching the darn kids you'd probably want off your lawn coming and going through the fence.

I've heard stories both ways (lax security vs prosecution) and I often wonder if it's mostly just scare tactics.

The police raided one of the apartments there last year and found $25,000 worth of "purple drank". Now, I have no idea how much purple drank sells for on the street, but that seems like enough to supply most of the Dallas Cowboys defensive line for a few seasons.
