| | | Those are some great shots! The last one is somewhat overexposed, but I like the rest of them. What sort of editing program do you use? In terms of lenses, I'd suggest getting something with a somewhat wider aperture, maybe a prime, so you could play around with having a subject in focus with the rest of the picture out of focus; those shots tend to have a more interesting composition. If you don't mind manual focus, you could probably find some older primes that are much cheaper and still fairly good quality to play with and see if you like that kind of shooting. It takes some getting used to not having the ability to zoom, but short depth of field shots are completely worth it. You can achieve that to a certain degree with your kit lens too, by finding an interesting subject and moving fairly close to it, but you'll likely get at least a couple stops wider of an aperture with a prime lens.

| | | #1 This has nice atmosphere and colors, without being too over-saturated with color. It seems like there was a little camera shake, but it's ignore-able. Nice shot! #2 This has kind of a dreamy glow to it, I like it. But, it feels like a random snapshot. You could find a better composition for this one, by stepping back a bit, or using a different lens. #3 This would look way better with a square crop, and consider taking the vignette focus off the center. Maybe try a different effect other than the obvious "heavy black vignette" trend/ fad. Try a more faded look, or various analogue effects that deal more in color changes/ balance. #4 Blown out highlights in the center, but it doesn't bother me that much, since this is basically a high-contrast, yellow vs. black image. For me, the heavy vignette on the branches at the top right is saying that this part of the picture plane for you, is unimportant/ irrelevant to the composition as a whole. This shot needs a massive makeover to even approach average status. #5 Perfect, and I would not change a thing about it. Also, it has sharp detail... no over-saturation of color, either. #6 Heh. I know where that is. I only have exteriors of this building, though. This has too much of an HDR look to it, for my taste. It's a little "radioactive mist" looking, (like it's glowing) with not enough attention paid to what could be a more interesting dynamic of shadow vs light. Try this one in black and white with some crazy adjustments to contrast and brightness levels. #7 Pretty cool shot. If I am not mistaken, you used a little bit of a Photoshop paint daubs or drybrush filter on that ;)

| | | @ General Zod Love the feedback 1. yes there was camera shake haha 2. I'll keep that in mind for future experiences 3. just messed around with it and made a more vintage/faded look. definitely looks alot better! 4. That was actually my first sunset, are you basically saying that I shouldn't just focus on the sunset, but rather brighten the nature side of it? Edit: I did that and it looks alot better 5. Thanks! 6. I actually just toyed around making the sky darker. I definitely agree about the unnatural radioactive look. Side note: Ever been there? Would love to hear your experience. 7. Good guess, but I actually just lowered the Clarity of it. @okapisrule I used lightroom, Would something like this work well? http://www.adorama...vdOzATXRoCAMnw_wcB Or should i get a wide angle prime lense? Sorry dont know that much about lenses

| | | Well, any prime lens is going to give you nice pics, but keep in mind they are fixed focal range. It took me a while to get used to my 50mm Sigma (You really have to step back away from your subject but the speed of the lens, the depth of field, and the picture quality is nice). Anyone experienced with prime lenses can tell you that once you get used to the range, you will start using that lens more and more often. I only have one, though. I can easily imagine that if I were a professional photographer, I would be packing at least three or four prime lenses, and then one or two zoom lenses and a macro. Somebody buy me a lottery ticket!
*** and actually, that 35mm looks like something I might need! It certainly is a lot cheaper than 1000 bucks for a zoom portrait lens, when I already have all the other bases covered in the lens department! Postscript: Another thing to keep in mind: There is a difference between the DX and FX lenses. The FX are mainly for full frame cameras, the DX are mainly for cropped sensor. You can use them interchangeably, but there are compatibility issues resulting in pros and cons while doing that (which I won't get into.)
