Last year, we had a pretty good time in Shelburne for MARMU II. So this year, I'm proposing that we head up to Cape Breton to check out all the things in the Sydney Area!

Friday, August ???
  • 16:00 - Pick everyone up, double check to make sure everyone is prepared
  • 16:30 - Leave. Perhaps explore some things and/or have dinner on the way there.
  • 21:00 - Arrive at campsite, set up camp.

Saturday, August ???
  • 08:00 - Wake up, have breakfast.
  • 10:30 - Explore the Sydney Military Complexes Chapel Cranberry Stubberts
  • 15:00 - Late Lunch
  • 15:45 - Explore the 2 Factories if accessible. (2nd building isn't in the Database)
  • 20:00 - Have Dinner and go back to camp.

Sunday, August ???
  • 08:00 - Wake up, have breakfast, pack up camp.
  • 10:30 - attempt exploration of 2 former schools, Train Station or Fish Plant if accessible. (None of these are in the Database)
  • 18:00 - Have dinner and drive home, arriving probably after dark.

How much is this trip going to cost?
  • Estimated cost per person is about $40
  • This does not include food or snacks

    Fuel
  • Sydney round trip: 850km (425km each way) + 150km for just floating around.
  • Gas is currently $1.02/L I cannot see it going higher than $1.15/L between now and then, so that's what I'll base it upon the higher number.
  • tbeckerson and I can carry 2 people at a cost of $20-25 per person for fuel.
  • I'll estimate a second vehicle of 4 people at $20-25 per person for fuel.

    Accommodation
    Mira River Provincial Park
  • Located 20km outside of Sydney
  • Costs $53.40 for 2 nights. If we can get 6 people the cost will be about $9/person
  • Has flush toilets and showers.
  • Sites do not allow alcohol. but I won't tell you to not bring it (;

What do you think? Any thoughts or ideas? If you're available for more than 1 of the weekends in the poll, please comment on when you're available.

I'll close the poll around mid July and set up an RSVP page.

Basic Members: A lot of the locations can only be viewed by full members. I've made it this way because the thread is public. Please send me a message if you're interested in going, and I'll give you more information on the locations listed in the itinerary.

I voted 1. But I *think* I'm free every weekend, things tend to come up though, but really hoping to make it. I'm probably going to stay at CBU residence though, as I'm not much of a camper.

I was planning on doing a 36h paintball event Natal Day weekend, but this I think will be much more productive, I think.

Yeah, 36h straight. I'd be doing 8h shifts, but the cost of paint alone would overshadow the cost of the meet-up. So if the game is a success, I'll likely go next season.

It'd be great to see you come out! And no worries about camping, it's entirely optional. I only choose it because it's the cheapest option for the group.

Newcomers are totally welcome, and are encouraged to attend. It's a great way to meet new people, and even get a recommendation for full membership!

Unless MARMU IV is the same date again.. I think it might be Partridge Island.

Ugh....you tempt me with the best places....looks like Dirty Deeds will have to wait until year 3. Assuming it's even a success this year. A lot of people are hesitant to go.
Either way, this year, I'm down for MARMU3

You can call me a "princess" but I'm really glad to have a flush toilet instead of just camping beside the ruins like you guys did the first (or second) marmu meeting

Having a great team to go explore with is my ultimate goal ;) (well my ultimate ultimate would be to explore the whole world)
