Mrs. Ulcer LOVES her vacations. We usually take 2 a year and drop a ton of money for a week in some exotic tropical local. I hate the beach. What's more, having traveled all over the world for the last 20+ years, I couldn't give a shit less about vacations. This year, with me being out of work, we had to settle for something much less extravagant and headed south for a 4 day weekend in a Texas beach house. To make matters even more exciting, Mrs. Ulcer chose the weekend when we have received the most rain in a decade.

Making the best of the situation I decided to do some googling and maybe hit some sites while I was down here. As luck would have it, my parents came down to share in the rainy day fun (OMG KILL ME!). While rolling a fatty driving down the road the old man discovered a geodesic house that has partially collapsed not far from the rental. So, after a hearty breakfast of Mexican migas and bloody mary's he drove my son and I to the location:

To get to the house, you had to pull into the driveway of an already occupied rental and then hike through a waist deep, mosquito infested "moat":

Once in, the place was fairly unique, 2 bedroom, 2 bath house that was probably pretty cool back in the day. The fact that the house was tilted about 20 degrees made walking around and taking photos a bit disorienting but overall a pretty unique find. Enjoy!

Food left in cupboards always makes me think that whoever lived there needed to evacuate in a hurry.

Super cool place. If the photo of the young man walking away from the house was at the bottom of the list, it'd be a pretty cool photo story.

Stay safe down there!

Cool set!

I was surprised by the marriage of classical and modern architecture. It's quite beautiful in there. Too bad about the damage...

Quite a wonky find there. The odd pitch of the walls/roof, coupled with the lean of the whole property would certainly be disorienting.

Props for getting out to that thing, too. That took some dedication.

Seems like a fairly recent abandonment, as well. Clothes and food left behind is always a little creepy to me.

You got some nice pics out of wading through mosquito waters, though. Very nice discovery!

Nice pics Peptic. I know exactly where that house is. I would never in a million years do any UE in that town as the cops there have always had a nasty rep. Not to mention, the people who live there are paranoid about looters. But, I'm glad you pulled it off.

There were a few other geodesic dome houses in that area. I believe there are only a couple more left standing. There used to be a big one right on the beach. It finally collapsed during a storm in '02.

NO WAY! I just saw this place last month, and thought, "hmm, I think that might be abandoned." Sadly, I was about to have to haul ass back to Texas at the last minute and didn't have time to confirm my suspicions. Good job! This house gets very high marks on the one-of-a-kind score, lol. Very cool.

As always, I appreciate the kind words! It was definitely ... different. Parking in a driveway of an occupied residence, having my 67 year old father as a lookout, the moat, then the fun of having my son along all made for a unique experience. I really wanted to stay longer, spend some time setting up shots etc, but given the circumstances, I really had to do a bunch of "shoot & move". If I had it to do over again, I would have parked on the beach and walked in by myself, but sometimes opportunities choose us instead of us choosing them!

Sort of reminds me of the shape of a previous place I lived in, but bigger. Picture lifting that thing up and plopping it down on the roof of an apartment building. That would be something.
