A derelict department store sounds more interesting than it is.

Before exploring an abandoned department store one imagines and hopes for aisles of decaying merchandise and broken displays. What we got was a cleaned out vacant building. Oh well. Been rotting for decades, and was "under renovation" at the time. Fast forward some years to today, and not much has changed.

Best part for me actually was the parking garage, complete with a hidden treasure chest of family keepsakes, which fortunately for us had already been ransacked and strewn around the room which saved us guilt of searching through it ourselves.

Ton of more pics on Flickr of course, just follow the links.

Actually looks more interesting than any of the abandoned department stores I've been in, though those found photos really sweetened the deal.

Not as good as the ones in Fukushima that have not been touched since the day they were evacuated though. I gotta see that before I die.

I've always liked the pictures I've seen from here and yours are no exception, you got excellent shots here. I wish we would've tried getting in but we never did. They've been doing the remodeling as slow as humanly possible here, opening 2012? Ahaha. it's a skeleton of a building at the moment, and it's been that way for awhile.

I thought that was going to become apartments.

I remember when that was open.

"Louie Sh!t F!ts" was a nickname for it.

Louie donated so much money in the community that there's an elementary school named after him.

Thanks for the memories.

Yup, just reopened. Apartments and food hall. I think they cut a huge hole in the middle of the building as a central open space.

I'm glad they finally did something with this place and the Thomas Jefferson.
