Trip to our local capital city. Old hotel, some older homes and the piece de resistance, THE HOSPITAL!!

The hotel was pretty cool, it was two hotels on the hill, the one in front was boarded up but at a few POE's the doors were unlocked (see pics) but the AC and power was still on? Hmm.

The houses were pretty cool, couldn't get inside without some serious work but we weren't there for those.

The hospital, probably the dopest dope right here. It was shut down and relocated a few blocks down. The big equipment was already gone but a lot of the smaller less valuable stuff was still there. This was around 11PM when we finally got in, flash lights were going dead and 20% on cell phone batteries and we didn't get too far in because there was only one POE and didn't want to get lost.

Wow, that hospital it's like a natural disaster hit and the nurses and doctors just ran leaving everything behind.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check batteries before exploring. Bring extra batteries that are charged with you. This includes camera AND flashlight batteries. I even carry a small mini-maglight in case the big one goes out and have My UER flashlight tucked away in a pocket somewhere in my camera bag.

Charging cell phones is a MUST before an explore. I won't go in with anything less than a 50% charge. I always assume the worst case of being injured and unable to move for 24 hours. I also carry extra water and a bit of food.

It's also a good idea to scout around and look for a 2nd POE. A single entry/exit cuts out a lot of options if something goes wrong. It's not always possible but it's a good idea to always be thinking of an escape route other than the one you used to go in.

Now that the lecture is over, good explore! Wish you could have seen more of the place but maybe next time.

As someone who works in healthcare my first reaction is I CANT BELIEVE THEY LEFT BEHIND PATIENT INFORMATION!! What a HIPAA nightmare.

The UEr in me is impressed by your find! It must have been a great explore, please post an update if you decide to go back

Thanks guys! Wife and I were super excited when we found a POE. And yes, just ordered extra batteries for the camera and the light on the camera (thank you Amazon!) but yeah you are right Pep. We weren't prepared enough for this trip but 99.9% we usually are. It was getting late and we were getting tired, which in hindsight was probably the worst idea possible. But anyways, it was beautiful. Blood samples everywhere and urine but the file cabinets were empty. I'm curious as to what's on those CDs. We will be going back ASAP and getting more pictures and taking a longer tour. I took a picture of the fire escape map and we will print that off and study it. Anyone know why they would leave the AC on? We figured that with a building that big it would take days to bring the temps back down or up to comfortable levels, sound right?

Climate control is essential if you're planning on reusing a building in the future with only minimal natural decay having taken place.

I agree. There's a hospital just down the road from me that's been vacant for about 8 years. AC still runs, the lights are on and there is supposed to be a 24 hour guard who's only there a few hours a week. The cops keep an eye on it and it has cameras all over the place.

I've talked to the cops and the security guard and the owners have been trying to sell it to everyone from the VA to nursing home chains with no takers. It still has all of the original equipment in it and I get a chubby every time I pass by...

It seems to be a regular thing, too. Edgewater Hospital in Chicago did the same thing and I know I've heard similar stories elsewhere.

Nice Pics! That Hospital is the sickest place ever! If I'm ever in the neighborhood I'll have to check it out.
