| | | Since we are a couple, we explore together and have been doing so for a while. One of us has explored a few times solo, just to grab some opportunities. Sometimes we go with other explorers or rookies. When going solo, make sure your stealth mode is ON. When going with people, finding someone else is easier to deal with. We've experienced all the different combinations: - If your group finds another group, everyone assumes you're just checking out and say "hey, what's up". - If your group finds a single person, chances are (s)he is a rookie explorer and will be very uncomfortable. Probably will say hi and go away in a fast pace. - If you are solo and find a group, they will probably be rookies and think "We shouldn't be here, but what is this guy doing here all alone?" However, you can have unfriendly encounters. If you are alone and find junkies or homeless people, that can be difficult to manage. As people already said: if you are alone and your gut is telling you something is wrong, probably you shouldn't go there. We should push our boundaries and expand our comfort zone, but the best way is to take small steps.

| | | Posted by terapr0 I much prefer to explore with another person, but rarely more than that. I find that three's usually a crowd, and four+ just stresses me out at most locations, especially if there are strangers involved. As I'm usually super anxious about not getting caught, I'm fairly picky about who I explore with and have/had a solid core group of friends whom I trust completely. Unfortunately as we've all gotten older and branched out into other things it's become harder and harder to make our schedules align, which equals less exploring these days, which sucks. Loathe as I am to admit it, I'm also just a bit of a wimp sometimes and get scared being in many places alone - mostly old houses and drains (lol, the ONE place you're least likely to encounter anyone). Of course I've done some of each solo over the years, but I'm never truly at ease. oddly enough the one thing I prefer to do solo is climbing cranes / exploring construction sites. When you know there's a risk of on-site security making patrols it's much easier to keep tabs on your own shit and be stealthy, not having to worry about someone else.
| This is me. I often scare the shit out of myself alone, but still explore alone. I started out alone, and I started with construction sites. No reason other than I didn't know there was such a thing as "urbex," or these forums existed, so my tendencies evolved a bit unconventionally. I typically do feel safer and stealthier alone on construction sites. I also don't want to have to stress out over someone acting a fool or taking stupid risks. That shit stresses me out. As of now, I probably explore alone/with others about 50/50. Both have distinctive advantages and disadvantages. I honestly can't say which I prefer.
