The Demolition of the Preakness Healthcare Center

Just after the demolition of both Greystone and Marlboro state hospitals, another NJ county hospital was demolished. The Preakness Healthcare Center operated as the Valley View sanatorium for a number of years before being retrofitted into a nursing home. It closed at the end of 2009, and sat empty until this month when demolition began. Here are a few photos showing the rapid progress.

More photos can be found on my Flickr. Thanks for looking everybody. Though a moldy shithole at the end, I definitely enjoyed the times I spent here. More photos from 2010-2015 can be found here: https://www.flickr.../72157647893320048

i've been exploring since 1999 and i can say without a shadow of a doubt, this was the single most disgusting place i have ever been. that room in the basement with all the coats made me run out and almost puke in the hallway.

Sure was man. This is the only place i've ever ever been that gave me a respiratory infection. I told myself I would never go back inside after that, and I stuck to it. The place never had a chance. There was two inches of water in the halls within a year of its closure. The forensic lab was cool though.

Nice photos man, strange how the demolition snuck under the radar - probably because of Greystone's demo.

Sorry for the hijack on your thread also, but wanted to share a mid demolition shot from a few weeks ago when the front portico was still intact.

No worries man, that's a fantastic shot. It's too bad they didn't save any of the architectural features. The mahogany casing and pediment in the admin area was beautiful. I really hope they saved the stained glass window over the front doors.

I'm fairly certain it is, the quarry ate up the land right behind it so it's basically on a cliff now.

I just took a peek at your flickr. Holy shit.
Some seriously excellent work. Love the lighting, lines and sharpness.
Honestly man, inspiring stuff. Well done.
