The title pretty much says it all. I'm not asking for locations, but I would very much appreciate it if there were someone willing to show a greenhorn some of the basics of UE. I've actually found a couple of places near Dallas that I would like to check out already. I don't mind going it alone, but having a more experienced person to give me tips and shit along the way would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Hello there! I'm a rookie myself and reside in a northern suburb of Dallas. I know a few locations around here, and an entrance to a sewage drain as well. If you'd like we can meet and share our spots. I intend to go and take pictures soon. I'll send you a PM!

If any experienced members around DFW could help me out that would be amazing.

It's a pleasure to know there are active people around here!

Lie rather still because this is the first time I've used this equipment.

I, too, dwell in a suburb north of Dallas. My experience is more with residential and rural exploration. I usually go alone. Recently I was invited on my first group explore at a building in Dallas. It was chill for me because all the recon had already been done by another member of our group. Therefore I was able to simply tag along and not be as guarded as I usually am during an explore (in other words: squeeze in a few pulls of whiskey). That was pretty much the most high profile, most awesome location I've explored. I would totally do it again. But. I still consider myself a noob--especially when it comes to highly visible locations in the Big City.

I would suggest attending one of the DFW meet-ups to chat up some local explorers and get your foot in the proverbial urbex door. (First Saturdays of every month; you'll get an invite from UER).

Good luck and welcome to the Southern Forum, y'all!

Yeah, I noticed the meetups, but they seemed as dead as ever. Meh, maybe next time. Anyways, it would be great to meet up with some somewhat more experienced Urbexers.

It seems Dallas and Houston have been pretty active the past few years, and it's great to see newcomers anywhere! The meetings are only dead over there because nobody goes. I have a feeling that if at least two people decided to just go and meet up, others would snowball in pretty quickly. The biggest reason I'm involved in UER at all was a Dallas meetup a few years back, and they were going pretty strong then. Good luck, you guys, and if any of y'all wind up dropping by our neck of the woods, just shoot a PM my way!

Welcome welcome newbies. I still consider myself a newcomer as well. It took me well over a year before I actually met another explorer, mostly of my own volition. Find active people in your area and shoot them PMs. Most people are pretty receptive, even if they aren't able to meet up. There are a lot of active explorers in DFW, but like any giant metroplex, it is hard to get a group together. Keep exploring on your own and putting feelers out there and you'll find others willing to take you in. Also, sounds like the two of y'all could hit up a place together if it is feasible. Good luck guys!

I actually want to make a clarification regarding the DFW meetups. RobertB has been carrying the torch in times past, and I know that he has in the past two months had a meeting that we planned to go to but wound up having to miss, so I know that he was at least interested then.

I don't know how busy he is these days, or if he's wanting to be the organizer that he was previously, but it may not hurt to ask him if he wants some help rejuvenating the meet 'n greets they used to have. That is, if that's something you want to get involved in.

Meet 'n Greet has been Hit 'r Miss for years. I've been to Meet 'n Greets when it was just me. I've been to Meet 'n Greets when we had 48 people show up!

None of us are full-time professional 'splorers. Most of us have jobs and other obligations.

This is very true for anyone VOLUNTEERED to host a Meet 'n Greet. I've only hosted a couple and it is much more work than one would expect.

Kudos to everyone who has hosted especially RobertB who has done it more often and over a longer time frame than anyone else.

Meet 'n Greet is kinda like UrbEx itself. Sometimes it is great, sometimes it is just okay.

Well, to be quite frank, alot of very cool buildings in downtown have been renovated into luxury apartments and such, but there is still plant of stuff to see if you have a keen eye. I don't really explore too terribly much anymore, but I know there are things to see and explore, you just have to keep a good eye out.
