Looking for a medium format camera... Film camera. I'm on budget.

What's better, Mamiya RZ67 or Hasselblad 500CM ? 6x7 or 6x6 frame? For urbex of course

The RZ67 was my first MF camera about a year ago! I love it. Bigger than most cameras but i fair well with it. Others might feel otherwise for urbex but i dont mind. I have since also picked up a roleiflex tlr (6x6) which is great, and a fuji gsw690 (6x9). Love those two as well but there are no interchangeable lenses on those. If you have a pack that can manage it and dont mind id say go for the RZ dont forget about a light meter!

So not exactly a camera question, but close enough. I have a good ol D90 with the 18-70 kit lens which kinda fails low light. I've had my eye on either the nikkor 50mm 1.8 e series or the nikon 35mm. Since the D90 is cropframe, would the 50mm bee too tight for most urban stuff? The 35 tends to cost a decent bit more (at least to a college kid), so would the 50 be a good choice to last me for a good while?

An E series lens? That's an interesting choice. If you're concerned about low light situations, this may go without saying, but perhaps you should get a decent tripod instead of another lens for now? You'd be able to shoot long exposures, so low light wouldn't be a problem unless you were trying to shoot in almost complete darkness.

You right, I do need to upgrade my tripod, its a cheap aluminum thing, but it holds for now. The lens is starting to fall apart thanks to a misfortunate TSA inspection and a slip of a pressure washer.

If you're looking at getting a new tripod, don't skimp. I've been through three of them in the last four years, the most expensive of which being $110. Take a look at the 3 Legged Thing Punks series that just came out. They're not terribly expensive and they've got great reviews. They also collapse to be pretty damn small which is great for urbex stuff.

So I thought I should post a follow-up to at least my question. I ended up getting the nikon 50mm f/1.8 for $58 shipped and am thrilled. The sharpness shot handheld is quite impressive. There are two shots I got last night from the roof of our caf, the only adjustment is correcting for the tessinflat curve I'm shooting in. For anybody shooting with a nikon and have a tight budget, this might be something worth looking into

I assume that you got a 50mm f/1.8D, so good for you on getting it for such a good price.

I'm looking for my first "real" camera, AKA not the crappy point and shoot I have now. The Rebel series by Canon was recommended to me by a few friends, and although it sounds nice and the price is appealing, I'm not really sure what I am doing yet.

Specifically, I was thinking about getting a Canon Rebel T5 from Amazon. http://www.amazon....ital/dp/B00IB1BTWI

Would this be a good camera for me to get?

Personally, I would try to pick up a used 7d for that price. Of course it will not have a lens with it. The price has dropped due to the 70D release and the announcement of the 7d mkii.

However, I started on the T1i and it was a great entry level dslr!

Any of the rebel series would be a great to kick things off! Once you learn how to use the camera and shoot with manual settings and understand the principals of photography then you can start investing in nicer lenses and eventually a nicer body but id say any of the T3,T5 T3i,T4i,T5i etc will treat you right. I think the T3 and T5 don't have the capability of video and thats the difference between them and the T3i,T4i and T5i so thats something to keep in mind but in general that camera will treat you great! Good luck!

I started with a Canon 60D which I would highly recommend then I invested in extremely nice lenses and now I upgraded to a full frame Canon 6D about a year ago~

I second this.

I started out with a Rebel XSi (a step below the T-series) not knowing much about photography (except for ISO speed, which I could play with on my Powershot and did).

I'm now using a 5D Mark ii - I had made a point of buying EF lenses when I was upgrading while using the XSi to ensure I could upgrade fairly easily.

Really, what I did with the XSi was go out on a nice afternoon to a nearby park and played around in the various modes to learn how they impact what was going on, then went to manual mode to combine them. Since then I've generally stuck with shooting in manual.

So, I am looking to buy my first camera (ever).
I have concluded that I should go for a point and shoot digital one (since I am clueless & my budget is really low ~ around 150$).

Is it advisable to get a random one at these money or save up for a better one? I don't plan on upgrading soon after that and I am pretty lost at what I should buy (or not).

Save up. Even a few hundred dollars more can get you a Nikon D80 and a kit lens.

So you think I should go for a used SLR instead?
Thought they would still be expensive for me but I guess it's manageable. I might just do that, thanks.

You're welcome. It's definitely worth it. You can gradually get new lenses for an SLR, whereas with a point-and-shoot, you'd have to get an entirely new camera if what you want to do is beyond what your camera's built-in zoom can do.

I use a Sony Cybershot (model from about 2013) it gets the job I need done most of the time. My main rig is a Pentax 115 G 35mm Point and shoot. Which gets some amazing shots. As far as digital point and shoots go I wish I still had my Nikon Coolpix.

Okay so I have looked at like 10 pages on this thing, and you guys are speaking a whole other language. Really the only experience I have with cameras, are the $200 little digital ones you can buy. I know 90% nothing about cameras. I know how to "point and shoot", download pictures, and charge the battery. That's pretty much it. I understand the point of pixels, frame rates, and photo quality. Before, I used my camera more for documentation, and less to take some cool pictures. Looking at everyone else photos, I definitely feel like my photo quality can improve with an investment in a better camera (and also because I dropped mine in the cat water bowl and rice didn't save it).. Fortunately the SD card wasn't even in the camera, so that is completely undamaged.

Onto my question:
Can you just tell me what to buy, or explain stuff to me like I'm 5? Something that is easy for Urbex, small, usable with one hand if necessary, rechargeable battery, and probably in the $500-600 range. And has a tripod I can purchase. I'm guessing the Canon Rebel series will probably fit my needs (I'm researching them a little bit now), but I have no idea what I'm getting into.

Buy a Nikon D80 if you can do without video. The model is several years old, but it's still solid and provides good quality photos. They're going for around $200-$300 nowadays. If you feel that you need video, then get a D90, slightly more expensive due to being more recent, but close to the same price. As for lenses, get a 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5. Its optical quality is better than a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens and it has a slightly longer range. You should be able to acquire a decent used one for less than $200.

Regarding the battery, most cameras for sale will come with one or two, as well as a charger, so look for the ones that do, and as for a tripod, you should be able to find cheap ones available in a lot of places, but make sure that they have a maximum height of at least 60".

Edit: To address the "usable with one hand" part of your statement, no SLR can meet that requirement, unless you're unconcerned with blurry photos, and I wouldn't recommend it for a point-and-shoot either for the same reason, though you have more wiggle room due to the lighter weight. Only a cell phone camera will be easily usable with one hand, and that'd be a step down from the p&s cameras that you've used.
