I got my 6 year old son his first p&s cam and took him out for his first explore wit me to an abandoned meat plant. He loves what I do and his mom treats him like sit so he's my little best bud.

The fuckin cop threaten to take my sons first camera away cuz he was playin by himself in the bed of my truck to keep himself from cryin and the asshole yelled at him. I almost caught a case. He had no right being completely hateful to my child. Would i have been wrong goin at him for trying to take my son's cam for no reason while treating him like a threat? I am beside myself. He saw my boy was scared and kept raising his voice even though we were compliant. I hate them.

what do you mean by "goin at him"?

If you mean throwing down with a cop I'm sure that would end up very badly for you and leave a way worse impression on your kid than having his camera taken away by the officer.

my question is, why did the situation escalate so quickly? what did you do to make the cop angry enough to yell at your kid?

I didn't do anything I was being totally compliant. My son was just playing with his camera in my truck bed and the cop kept yelling and being shitty to my son. He was just doing what 6 year olds do and playing because he was scared. The guy didnt need to yell at him like a criminal. Made him cry nshit. He coulda simply asked us to leave. i just don't take to people being mean to my boy. He's a sweetheart and is very courteous to everyone. Just set me off. Just curious as to whether I was wrong to get mad.

He had no reason to get rude with your kid. If you feel it was that out of line, there are places you can go to bring your issue up. He may have just had a bad day, and you were the unlucky one to be the first he met. I know that still gives him no right, but it happens. I would talk to someone about it.

If you mean assaulting a LEO by "goin at him" yes you'd be the loser in that fight right or wrong wont matter.

Like others said there are other ways to handle this situation.

Official oppression, police brutality, unprofessional conduct? You're going to have to be able to prove he did a lot more than yell at the tot.

Before you put hands on a cop be damn sure youre backed up by plenty of eyewitness testimony, it helps if the cop was in commission of a crime too..

hrm. Given that you were somewhere you weren't supposed to be, I'm not sure I would press this one too much. I mean, could he have charged you with child endangerment?

No child endangerment I don't believe. We were by an empty, completely abandoned place, no trespassing signs anywhere. Truthfully I was parked on the side of a dirt road kinda lettin my boy try to learn how to take pictures.

Weren't really buggin anyone but the deputy knew me, and back in the day I had a record and issues with the law so I feel like he was being a fuckwad to my son because of my past.

He may have an axe to grind with you.
Best to remain calm and non threatening.
Offer to leave.

If you can discretely activate your phone, make an audio
recording of the event. That way you have some evidence of the
behavior of the officer.

No parent, a caring one anyhow, will ever think they are endangering their child. And I believe you when you say the police officer was acting out of line, sadly it is all too common.
Having said that though, you alone put your child in this situation. You loaded him up and drove to where ever and did whatever with your child.
My advice is to think twice about doing something like that in the future.
I love how your six year old is interested in photography and going exploring with you. That is great. But don't put him in a situation where you could possibly get into trouble.

That's my two cents. I hope you don't think I am flaming you or busting your chops here. I am just giving some advice one father to another. Especially if his mom is not treating him right and you are. Don't risk that, he needs you in his life.

Silver Rider I got what you're saying. When I posted this I was still angry as hell. I was pissed because we hadn't really started to leave my truck yet and the dude came up yelling like my kid had a gun. Perhaps you're right though, maybe I should stick to shooting at the park with him. I didn't really think anything would happen. So yeah, hind-sight being 20/20, probably a bad idea. I just get real heated when cops act like dicks just cuz they can. If he hadn't had that badge and yelled at my son that way, we woulda went to the dirt. The cop knew that. Like they do it cuz they know you can't react. I'll definitely think twice next time. Don't want my boy seeing me get in trouble.
