| | | Posted by johnnycanuck As for you, mookster, you are kickass! Those were some great stories!
| I've had a few scary moments for sure, all good fun for the most part and able to smile about them later all except one which your scary encounter reminded me of actually... I went over to Belgium in March last year for a whole week of exploring times, on the first day we checked into our hotel then thought we had enough time for one last place, and as it was only a short drive away decided to head out to it, an abandoned farmhouse. We parked up and as we got out the car I noticed a farmer in a tractor in the field opposite had clocked us, I pointed this out to my companion but he seemed determined to push on so finding a way in away from the man on the tractor we found ourselves in the attic of the house. About ten minutes later we had split up and I was in one bedroom while my mate was in the room next door, and I heard, from downstairs, a very faint 'thud' but brushed it off and crouched down to take a photo of the bed. The next thing I remember, I look up and see standing in the doorway of the room blocking my exit a big burly guy brandishing a large wooden pole, enraged, shouting and screaming 'GET OUT!! GET OUT!!' while smashing the wooden pole on the floor in front of me and then on the end of the bed, so hard it broke the pole in two. During this commotion my mate popped his head around the doorway and realised what was happening, as I made my way extremely gingerly around the big psycho man and down the stairs, we didn't even look back just tried to get out as calmly as possible even when he said while following us 'The owner is coming with a shotgun'. We get back on the road and the mad man has disappeared somewhere but my mate suddenly clocked that kneeling next to our car is a woman (who we took to be the farmer's wife) attacking our tyres with bolt croppers. My mate chased her off down the road and returns, and as he does a shotgun blast rings out over the top of the house. So we are now stuck with one slashed tyre and one only just hanging on, with a trio of crazy people god knows where...in the end my mate ended up calling the police on the farmers, they rocked up and the two officers seemed to play a good cop bad cop routine, I was sat in the car talking to the 'good' officer while my mate argued with the 'bad' officer despite me repeatedly saying stop lets just get out of here etc. The police stayed with us while he changed the wheel and let us off with a warning about trespassing and about how 'there are no laws in rural Belgium'.... I am not afraid to say it is the most afraid I have ever been for my personal safety in my entire life, I have never ever been more scared than that afternoon.

| | | When I was squatting, on clear nights there was a rooftop I'd go stay at. I found rooftops better than staying on the ground level 'cause generally speaking, people don't look up. It was an easy rooftop to get to, and overlooked an isolated parking lot so on those clear nights I could see pretty clearly for awhile, unseen. A lot of stuff used to happen in that isolated little parking lot. I certainly witnessed a lot going on there - clearly, it was a frequented spot. One night I was laying there, bedded down for the night. Two small u-haul-type trucks came up into the lot and two guys got out of each truck. There were two older guys and two younger guys, and as a team they went about their business moving small boxes between the trucks. Well, the 'oh shit' moment came when one of those older guys noticed me up on the roof. He sent the two younger guys to 'take care of it' so I sort of scramble to shove my blanket into my bag and bug out before the guys reach the *only* point of exit (that I know of), but they're there before I am and all I can do it sit there and await the inevitable. Needless to say, the night didn't really go my way. I did end up with some cool scars, a story to post here, plus a love of heights & high spaces, though. So there's that.

| | | A close friend and I infiltrated a recently abandoned meat packing plant back when we were in high school. We rode our bikes right into the main factory floor, and snooped around with out flashlights for about an hour. After rounding a corner into an even darker portion of the main room, we saw a bunch of mutilated animal parts stacked in the center of a pentagram comprised of small sticks and twigs! What was scary was that the amount of work that went into creating this nightmare fuel was more than any teen satanist wanna be would ever undertake, so it had to be legit. Oddly enough, we decided to keep exploring afterward, and found our way into some kind of commercial store room. Right about the same time we realized that it was a giant freezer, the door creaked shut! When we first went in, there was a chunk of cement holding it open. After bumping the door, it must have fell out of the way. Thankfully, it wasn't auto locked from the outside or anything like that. Our hearts did skip a beat when we tried to gently push it open, and the cement chunk blocked it from opening. In all of our teen fervor, we managed to push the door open against the cement chunk, and bailed out. Also, a few weeks after we were there, the place was burned to the ground by "vandals". Given that the entire facility was made from cinder block, cement and steel siding nobody really believed it. I think the city just wanted a reason to finally demolish it for good.

| | | One time we got escorted out of an abandoned jail be cops pointing shotguns to our heads. That was awesome. Surreal being "released" from jail out of the same entrance people that had finished their time had left thru. 100 YEAR OLD WATER MAINS BREAK REALLY EASY The first night i was in <REDACTED> we got ourselves into a really fun new steam tunnel system under an old town. Many of the tunnels connected to buildings that were active or re-purposed for various things. It was super awesome. We were pleasantly surprised when they turned out to be WAY bigger than expected and were giddy when we passed intersection after intersection. Eventually we found a connection up into a disused garden level basement/storage room. It was super awesome and a billion degrees. we eventually decided that we should follow the larger pipes down the tunnel and find the boiler room. To do so we had to climb over a giant mess of pipes (a common occurrence in steam tunnels, and all utilities for that matter). Usually I dont even think about what i am climbing over unless it is active steam that is going to burn the fuck out of me and hell, these were abandoned tunnels right?! I got past the pipes and was waiting for the person looking ahead to tell us if it was worth the wet walk down the tunnel. Suddenly there was a HUGE sound behind me and i turned around in time to see one of the ppl we were with get positively BLASTED by high pressure water and fly onto to flooded tunnel wall. At first i thought it was a collapse but i shortly realized that the pipes we had been climbing on were active -and high pressure watermains, one of which had just blasted open and was now shooting clear across the tunnel in a jet. Myself and the few others that had already crossed the pipes and to go straight through the blasting water and GTFO. Left with few options given the fact that we were directly under an active building we all went dashing out a door of the building and ran away quickly to our cars. As we ran we looked back at the building to see where we were and there were clearly people walking around in the building... Not sure how they discovered it was busted but it was intense at the time

| | | Been going to this abandoned mental hospital in NY for years and last night had to be one of the craziest days filled with a ton of "oh shit" moments. We were having a cookout on the roof, and a park cop was driving by, so we all had to duck. He circled the building once and i peeked over and saw him driving down the driveway and back onto the road, slowly. After the cookout, we had to walk across the main road to get to building 5 because the tunnel junction was demo'd in 2012. We tunneled to building 93 and when we were making our way up the stairs, someone in our group sees a park cop or two standing outside by their car outside the rear of the building. We all run back to the basement near the tunnels, fearing they heard us (they most likely did). We wait it out for a few minutes, then decide to go back up and see if we can find the others who decided to continue up onto the higher floors. As soon as we get back near the stairwell, we are looking out of some lower windows, looking to see if the cops are still out there, but 2 others are running down the stairs, saying somethings on fire and to hit the tunnels quick! We tunneled to building 7 and went up to the roof to relax, thinking we'd be going back to 93 once a few others who were hiding up in there gave us the green light. A few of us are looking over the edge talking, when one spots a park ranger who has driven up to one of the POE's. He then left and went around the other side, where he saw a person in our group because she stuck her head over the ledge a little too far. They circled the entire building and the 2 buildings behind, so down to the tunnels we go to 93 anyway, meeting up with the ones who had been in 93. They want to go to 7 but we told them we had just been spotted there, so we were gonna go to 21/22 again, where the next hour or two we got reports of cops on foot, driving around a few times and apparently 2 of them in the building looking for people. We ran to the tunnels where some of the group was going to stay behind, and try to stick around longer. Myself and two others went to an open access hatch in the woods, where we were able to escape the property without being seen or heard....success!1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

| | | 1. I was in a small psychiatric hospital during my second explore. I thought I had a general understanding of what to do, but obviously, I didn't. We were going up the staircase closest to our entrance, and started hearing some sort of weird noise. Think of a bag dragging on the floor, with slow and steady footsteps. We took caution, and continued on, but came to a halt when the noise suddenly was in the hallway about five or six feet from us, headed our way. This scared the shit out of us, and ran out back our access point, hiding in the dark. My friend realized he left his knife inside somewhere, and started heading back in. Right as he did this, the person we heard upstairs started yelling hysterically and shined his light through every light on the second floor saying he heard us, etc. We pulled our friend back and quickly left the area. 2. About two months ago, I was exploring a very tall medical office building. The only entry point is climbing the fire escape, entering through an unlocked door on the roof, and going down. Just going up was a workout in itself, so going down was taking the breath out of me. Occasionally, we'd have to stop and just, well, breathe. It's because of this, and the fact this was a late-night quickie, that we weren't exactly staying alert. (The friend I went in with had been here many times before, and our other friend was waiting for us to secure an entry point on the ground floor.) As we're nearing the main entrance, there are more and more lights on all over the place. It was neat for photography, but the dimmed buzzing of nearby alarms worried us. We circle the ground floor, avoiding the main hallway, and finding a door for our friend to enter. All of the fucking sudden -- BAM BAM BAM. I shit my pants. Someone was banging on the door we just walked past, violently. My friend laughs out of fear, realizing it's our friend. We ask her to wait just a little longer, worrying the door may be alarmed. Continuing on, we go down a hallway that connects to the main hallway. There weren't any visible alarms anywhere, until a very loud, high-pitched scream echoed through the entire place. My heart jumped, and I instantly saw all the flashing red lights from the alarm we tripped. We tracked back, running through the hallway, and said, "Fuck it." pushing open the door to our friend. The door wasn't alarmed, but we got the hell out of there.
