Two friends and I decided to check out an abandoned incinerator near our city late one night because we were bored and none of us had explored it before. We parked on a nearby street then cut through a path in some backyards to get down to the access road for the plant, covered the perimeter of the plant looking for an entrance, and finally found one. In we went, browsed through the few rooms on the ground floor, and decided to hit the second floor. Friend A went first, I was in the middle, and friend B brought up the rear. I'm not really looking where I'm going and all of a sudden friend A comes to a dead stop mid-way up the stairs, leading me and friend B to bump into him. I looked up and there was a flashing alarm panel that we had tripped while going up the stairs. I've never run down a shaky ass stairwell in the pitch dark faster in my life.

We finally made it outside and decided to stick close to the side of the building because of the shadows as we made our way to the edge of the property. We began to hear gravel crunching down the access road and we booked it up a rock-covered hill to hide behind a stone wall since there was literally nowhere else to hide anywhere near the building. On the way over to our hiding spot, friend B got hit in the face with a tree branch and his glasses went flying off his face, but we were scurrying to get well hidden and it was dark, so we didn't have a chance to stop and look for them. We ended up hiding in thorns and rocks behind this reinforcement wall for at least an hour in probably five degree weather, my friend sans glasses, until the cops finally rolled out.

I was in a skyscraper construction site all by myself in the middle of the night once, and when I got to the roof and looked down, a cop was hanging out in a parking lot. I freaked out at first, but didn't hear anything across the scanner so I continued like nothing happened. I got down to the 5th floor or so and the cop moved and went right to my entry point, driving about 2mph. I pooped. Luckily, I think he was just bored and doing his patrol, because he just kept creeping down the road and eventually turned out of sight. So, thinking I was set, I decided now was the time to leave. I got down to the second floor and thought, "Eh, I should get a picture of this floor for shits sake, real quick before I leave." So I set up and take the photo quick and then pack everything up well and walk down the stairs to the gutted ground floor. About 3 steps from the ground I look up and see two people talking outside a pick up truck inside the gates I need to go through. I practically fall down trying to scoot back up the stairs out of view. I waited 5 minutes and the truck scampered off, but one of the guys went into the other stairwell and turned on some lights. I came down the last stairs, floated over the debris and past the other stair and then just started full out sprinting to get to my car two blocks over.

I'm really glad I stopped to take that photo otherwise the pick up would've pulled up right as I was in the open.

Had 3 on Sunday.

Went in a old dilapidated store built on a hill. Then heard voices. The owners still lived beneath. Got out quick.

Had a landowner in spurs come up on us while we were already two signed fences and an underwear river cross in. I approached him, gave our names, stuck out my handshake hand, and asked him how old the structure we were at was. Glad we had our cameras out. He thought we were cattle rustlers from the morning returning.

A cop pulled up on my parked car that night with his lights flashing. We were out away from it at a location but I could see the lights from my position. I signaled with my flashlight to my whereabouts. That and the fancy fake company magnets I have on the car doors must have done the trick and he left.

I know I've posted a story before on this thread but...my last explore ended with a very big "oh shit" moment.

Me, my fellow urbex buddy and two of our friends infiltrated the abandoned sugar mill in Longmont, CO. Now I have a lot of exploring experience and am known for being very quiet. My urbex buddy has tactical and security training and one of our friends is ex Marine, so we all know how to get around without being seen or heard. Our 4th member though, could have passed for Andre the Giant and had no exploring experience at all. Well we are all inside the south building(well, I was, I went ahead to find a POE and went in expecting the others to follow, they didn't) and every once in a while I would hear some banging or crashing sounds. I couldn't believe how noisy the others were being. After about 15 minutes on my own, I decided to call my buddy and see where they were. I walked back out between the two buildings and was on the phone with my buddy when a VERY lound "bang, blam, crash!" sounded right behind me. I about crapped myself and my buddy asked what that was. I said I had no clue but it was from right behind me in the north building and I booked it back into the south building. About a minute later, I met up with them at the roof of the south building and we tried to get into the north building. Me, my buddy and our exMC friend got in and we about ran into someone working on that floor. We all attempted to quickly and quietly exfil out the small, sheet metal hole, 3 stories up, that we came in through. Our other friend had stayed behind in the south building so we went to get him and explore the south building. This was very short lived. No sooner did we start to explore again in the second building when we saw a guy in the other building through the windows. We then decided to call it and get out before being seen. As we were walking to the stairs, my buddy stepped on a piece of sheet metal and it gave off a sharp, gunshot like sound. We all froze and then booked it down the stairs and outside(with me stopping to take a couple pics along the way, go figure) and get back to the street. As we were sneaking along the outside of the building, my buddy and exMC friend ran to our hiding spot(where we hid from cars on the road after coming in from the fence) and I was making my way there with our 4th friend. All-of-a-sudden his phone goes off with a blaring music ringtone and I about shit myself. He fumbled and finally turned it off after what seemed like forever, and then he accidentally kicked a metal box causing it to crash over on it's side. At this point I was sure he and I were screwed and going to get caught. Thankfully, we all made it back out through the fence and to our car without any further incident(I got stuck in the fence getting in. My camera strap caught on a link in the fence and I barely got unhooked and prone before a car drove by), but man did we have adrenaline. All the while this was happening, I was thinking about how a fellow urban explorer and contact of mine had gotten caught with his group here, and even though they were only yelled at to "leave or get arrested," I didn't feel like pushing my luck. Check him out if you don't know him, Whithered Percpetion. http://www.flickr....thered_perception/

A school in my city off of a busy main street, had (sadly) been demolished to make room for a newer one. When the building was probably 3/4 done I decided one night to give into temptation and jump the rather tall fence from a harder to see area. I landed from jumping off the fence, very loudly I might add, basically into a vat of mud....... right beside a well lit and active contractor trailer I had failed to scope. I proceeded as usual til I started to hear activity semi-distantly trailing me when reaching the outer areas of the school(complete with exposed walls). Prone behind a barely, but still, visible unfinished ledge to the side of the school paranoia made hyperaware of all the ways I could be spotted by the street or from any pursuers(and of the legalities *damn nazis*). I hauled ass to and climbed in an unavoidably conspicous mannor(still was spotted) and after making sure the cars on the street weren't police, I jetted. Needless to say the entire explore was unfortunately short and full of "oh, shit"

Years ago when my friend and I were still new to exploring (therefore pretty stupid) we decided to see if we could get into a certain complex of buildings. Some were active, some abandoned.

We found an open window and rigged up a little platform to climb onto in order to reach and crawl through the window. It was a cool building, lots of junk in it, but as we progressed through we realized it had been used recently (there were several rooms that had been some sort of summer or kids camp in the past couple years). Strange, but no one was around at the time so we kept on going.

Last door we walked through shut behind us, but I didn't really think much of it as we started looking around the cafeteria/gymnasium we had wandered into which was CLEARLY active. It was clean, machines were buzzing and lights were on. Well shit. We poked around a minute then decided to get out of there but YUP that door that had shut behind us had also locked behind us.

SO we started frantically looking for a way out. Windows were locked and stuck. The set of doors across from the door we had come through had a small crack we could look through, and it was looking down a hallway of some medical-type area with people in scrubs and white doctor-coats. There was another door elsewhere we could hear voices through.

There was a big door that was probably used for unloading cafeteria stuff off of trucks. It had an alarm-looking box on it, so we decided to bust out the door and book it to the car, which wasn't too far. So after several 1-2-3's and getting scared we finally went for it and... slammed into the door because it was locked too.

Didn't help that we barely had cell service in there and it was getting dark, but we eventually got some other friends to climb through our POE and come open the door for us. Lesson learnt, though.

I had an "oh shit" moment this past week. I'm still not sure if there will be any legal repercussions but my school would like to have a chat with me. That being said, I will not be posting any new material for the near future :/

EDIT: I will add more details when I know what's going on

I actually just had a close call while exploring a house the other day. Me and a friend were inside exploring and I was recording for Youtube. As my friend was looking at some papers I heard gravel crunching like an approaching vehicle. I looked out the window and saw a public works truck coming down the path towards the house. I told my friend and we ended up climbing out a broken back window and running up a hill behind the house through thorn bushes. We sat down and hid behind trees and brush and watched the public works truck stay there for 10-15 minutes, then pull away. He drove up the path, closed, and locked a gate that blocks vehicles from entering. Since he did that I figured he wouldn't be returning so we just went back into the house to finish exploring.

Scary part was when we first arrived at the location and saw the gate wide open I thought "Maybe I can just drive down the path and hide my car behind the trees." But something told me it was a bad idea so we ended up parking far away and walking. If I would have driven down the truck would have discovered we were there.

That's a genius idea for parking on site with a plausible explanation of why! Has anyone else taken this tactic?

The most tactical parking I've done was at a location with absolutely no parking in sight. The location was small and I knew it would be quick so I decided to pull off the road, put on my hazard lights, and stick my work shirt in my window. I figured if anyone would come across my car they would figure it is a disabled vehicle and the owner left to get help.

My "Oh shit" moment came when I explored my first factory. This place had something like 8 floors and various levels on the roof.My friend and I found a way in and then left to get our other friend to join us.We were having a blast taking pictures and exploring each floor. Then we decided to make our way to the roof. Here we saw multiple levels you could get to by a series of ladders. We went to the very top and like the stupid kids we were...sat right in front of the billboard sign feeling accomplished and smoking a little something. After a bit we see a helicopter in the distance.Thinking nothing of it we continued to sit where we were. Then the helicopter came close enough so that we could see the word Sheriff in huge yellow letters. Still we stayed calm. Thought hey it is just doing a pass over and nothing will come of it.Well then it turned around. When we saw it heading back towards us we flipped out.The three of us busted ass down the ladders and made it to the stairs. We stopped suddenly and heard footsteps coming from below us. In desperation we ran across the factory to the other set of stairs and then cut back to the exit.Thankfully we made it out without getting caught or someone getting hurt.

No dude of course not lol but yeah it was in RVA one block away from my house. I was allegedly climbing a building on April 11th and then I was robbed on the 18th. I don't want to go into too many details publicly about the incident but basically my name was brought up by one of my former best friends when I allegedly got away and he didn't. The police helped me fill out the police report and then handcuffed me and issued me a citation.

I was out exploring a big concrete structure out in the Sonora area (50 miles away from where I live) with my friend, Strider1991. We could hear a dog barking maybe a half a click out, so we assumed it was a neighbor or something. We were really distracted with looking around this stone structure when I had this itching feeling to turn around. What I saw horrified me: a cabin about 400 yards away with the lights on, door open, illuminating the figure of a man heading towards us with a flash light and a rifle/shotgun. The dog was halfway between us and him, we ran the opposite direction up a 50-60 degree incline hill that went up about 200 feet to the road. The entire time we could hear the dog getting closer and closer and the man screaming things along the lines of "GET 'EM!". Eventually we got up to the road, exhausted from adrenaline rush, and hid behind a nearby pile of dirt. Not 3 minutes pass and a truck drives by really slowly with a flashlight shining around the road, guessing again it was the same man. After he passed twice we made a banzai charge to the car which was about 2 and a half miles up the road. Being the biggest adrenaline rush of my entire life I puked everywhere inside my car and passed out.
Pretty sure in that situation judging by how far away we were from society we would have disappeared forever.

I definitely had an "oh shit" moment last month. I live pretty close to two abandoned hotels (each pretty good sized, at least 3 stories), and decided to invite my close friend and fellow UE enthusiast to go explore one of them. We decided to pull right into the parking lot and park (yeah, we really should have parked a few blocks away), since we knew that the police patrolled around this hotel, and figured it would be less suspicious if we didn't try to hide the car. Well we get out and start walking around and taking some nice shots of the hotel inside and out.
About 30 minutes into our outing, we both see a plain white suv pull slowly around the back of the hotel, where we are standing on the second level. We figure it's one of the people who have been vandalizing the hotel and just book it through the hotel, all the way around to where we parked. My friend peeks out of the doorway we are hiding inside and says to me "Oh shit man, he's got a gun pulled out". So of course we are both like "how the hell are we gonna get by this psycho". Turns out it was just the Chief of police for our town. We walk out after he calls over to us, and start talking with him about what we are doing here, all the standard stuff, you know. He's actually a pretty cool guy, and we just talk for a few minutes, and then go on our way with a warning.

Not the best picture, but you can kinda tell how big the place was. There was another main building to the left of this shot, will try to upload more later.

I have two stories:

1. I was exploring an abandoned factory complex in Cleveland and was about to cross a driveway from one building to another. When I stepped out of the building, a big black dog bounded up to the doorway of the other building and started barking. I assumed we weren't going to end up friends, so I quickly retreated back into the building I came from.

2. Last summer, I was on vacation in upstate New York when I stopped at an abandoned Wild West-themed park. I had been there for about an hour when I come out of the snack bar and who is standing there but Mr. State Trooper. He gives me the "come here" signal so I walk over, making sure my camera is visible, and he asks all the usual questions. I explain who I am, why I'm there and what I'm doing. Apparently, my explanation satisfies him and he tells me he was called because someone reported vagrants on the property and asks if I had seen anyone. We ended up having a conversation about the history of the park and I wasn't even asked to leave.
