Hey...I am a brand new member and am really excited to have found a site with others who love exploring! I consider myself more of an explorer than a photographer, however I'd love to get some honest feedback about some of these images taken from a recent visit to Gary, IN. Be brutal!1.

One thing I would suggest is making sure everything is lined up so that its symmetrical. To me its distracting when a photo is taken at an angle and not symmetrical.
5-7: These are really not that interesting of picture to me. Number 6 is too washed out. I would avoid shooting into the light like that. On number 7, I cant tell what the light is reflecting off by the window but its distracting. Over all there just isn't much that catches my eye in those three pictures.

3: This one is my favorite of the set. I'm a sucker for peeling paint and hallways. But again the light from outside is washing out some of the picture

8: This is also a good shot, but that twig is annoying.

But over all good job. I'm excited to see what you come up with!

I hope your exploring takes you to amazing places! I'll be in Gary soon, I'll have to check out the schools in your other topics.

Work on you composure and knowledge of light a little bit more, you can look at photography websites or videos on youtube and learn a lot about how to take better pictures. I think 1, 3, and 7 have the best potential.

For #1, if you stepped to your left and got the girders coming to a point at the middle of the shot, the diagonal lines would look really good. Great colors in this one by the way.

For #3(and some others) the frame isn't level and is a little distracting, this is easily fixed. I would try taking a step forward or a few steps back to either take that door frame on the left completely out of the shot, or include the whole door in the shot. I would agree that it is washed out by the brightness, taking pictures earlier or later in the day will help bring out better colors. Again learn more about light and how important it is to taking better pictures.

For #7, I like the blue and red paint, the contrast is good, but my eye is drawn to the big wooden shelf thing on the left, for me it dominates the shot and distracts from the paint and room. This can be fixed by better composure. Maybe try placing the camera on the shelf pointing towards the wall and getting 2/3 of the peeling red pain and 1/3 blue? or just all red paint? Try getting better lighting for this one too.

Get editing software if you can afford it or if a friend has it(torrenting is an option, but I'm not a huge fan of it). This will allow you to fix crooked frames and manipulate lighting and colors. Overall, good pics and good start, you have potential. What camera are you using by the way?
