Our Local Asbestos Land

This was a repeat visit for me, but it had been over a year since the last time I went here and I had someone new to exploring with me. After making sure she had gotten an asbestos rated respirator we headed into what was once a power plant that also provided steam to the drop forges that no longer exist.

Sadly the scrappers have been having fun pulling out the stairs and metal flooring. They've managed to take an entire boiler along with a couple of pumps from the basement. The local taggers have finally discovered this place as well so there goes the neighborhood.

It is a good thing there are few openings in this building, the wind was something fierce!

Nice set. I know where this is but I've never been there before so it's nice to see some of it.

You should go, but if you do keep in mind the neighborhood watch takes watching very seriously. It seems we were spotted and the cops were called, there were a few tense minutes of us standing in a snowy field with nothing but a rotting trailer home between us the squad, who was between us and and our car. We bit the bullet and approached him, turns out it was no big deal. The cop just asked that next time we call the station ahead of time so they wouldn't have to send a squad out, they could care less about photographers.
Also, the asbestos makes a nice fluffy soft floor covering so not wearing a respirator is slow suicide.

Good to know. I can't imagine why the cops would care though, it seems like it's been trashed for awhile. If I'm ever in the area maybe I'll have to stop by and check it out.

indeed #7!

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

This place looks crazy familiar. If this is the place I'm thinking it is, this factory was my first major exploration and what really got me wanting to explore more and look into the histories of places.

I dig the lighting on #7.

8th pic makes me so curious haha. Awesome pics!

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you waat to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!
Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies!

Nice. It was a lot of fun to run around the catwalk maze back when only about half of the flooring was scrapped. Still fun enough, just can't move around as quickly. Never worn a respirator there, but every single time I've regretted that once I started kicking crap up on the upper levels.

We've had good luck parking to the NW. I have a very vague memory of something going wrong a few years ago when we were parked to the NE, but I can't remember for the life of me what the hell it was. Lol.

20 or so years from now you're going to regret that! The first time we went I had no respirator, then I realized what all that fluffy yellow stuff on the floor was. *sigh* It really is everywhere in this place, from top to bottom, and since someone has been attempting to strip the sheet metal off one of the engines they've pulled even more out and spread it around.

I miss the catwalks, the first visit we didn't go far on them as we were pressed for time and figured they'd be there when we came back. Turns out not so much.

RE: Parking- the neighbors will come out and question you if they see you, but are fine once you tell them you're there for photos. Hell, the neighborhood watch is so on the ball I actually feel a bit safer for it.
