Inflatable raft durability

Hello, I was wondering if anybody else in this section of the forum has a Intex Explorer inflatable raft? If so, how durable is it? And will a hole be put in it very easily?

I've used these before. They're cheap and will pop easily.....but so will most walmart/target variety inflatable boats.

I once had to pull a friend from the water, in February, after he fell out of a raft like this. Have a plan for that scenario.

Intex isn't that bad. For $15 it will work pretty well, especially if you only need it once. The thing with their boats though is they seat one less than their rated persons comfortably. It really all depends on the situation, how far you have to go, water conditions.

My 2 cents: Sevylor. When you absolutely, positively do not want to be in the water. Gotta love multiple air chambers.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Im planning on bringing one other person in a 3 person raft. So that should be fine then. Only problem is who knows whats in the water. The depth of the water is going to be around 2-3 feet. I think ill be okay.

+1 on the Sevylor. I hear this is a pretty decent raft.

But.. 2/3 feet of water? Waders would work.

I just figured it would be somewhere to try out the raft. And im most likely picking up some waders within the next couple weeks.

Sevylors are good. I had a green 4 person one (forget what model) but the thing was heavy and felt like it could take a decent beating. Only thing is they take FOREVER to inflate, might be worth it to bring it inflated on your roof on the way there or at least half inflated inside the car.

If there is any sandstone involved, you are screwed if you use inflatables

I have an explorer 100 and it barely holds me but it's not bad as far as toughness (for an inflatable). For the price I don't think you'll find much better.

Smurf why do you say the Sandstone will screw you on inflatables? I also think that there are crappy poly vinyl rafts that you find at wal-mart and then there are nice reinforced rubber ones. I have an older inflatable kayak that was made in Czechoslovakia, real nice fabric/rubber inflatable that I have used for years on the Mississippi and St. Croix. I go through the locks and dams all the time and take it into drains. Run it aground on sticks and rocks and so far no leaks. In fact last year there were like 6 of us on the St. Croix. Every one else had a rigid hull kayak. I was the only one that did not get wet or start to sink.

There are reinforced boots you can cover the bottom of Sevylor rafts and kayaks if you are doing something that would require more ruggedness. I can't come to give up my inflatable kayak for a rigid hull until it is destroyed. Best thing is, I got it free when some rich wanker was cleaning out their garage and throwing it away.
