You know I paid a visit to Victoria just two weeks ago; it had been over 20 years since I had been.

I stayed at the Gatsby Mansion which although was an amazing piece of Victoria's history was incredibly eerie as it really is not staffed after mid afternoon.

I crawled through the waterfront part of the town hitting a whole slew of really cool places and trying to absorb some of the local history; what a fascinating place.

I found the history of Trounce Alley super cool and when I made my way through Chinatown, wow. I think this was my favorite part, having some Dim Sum and wandering around.

This cool little alley, I think it was called Fan Tan Alley was a really cool little experience, the little historical set-ups that they have in that one shop (the alley scene, and the window where I guess you paid admission into a gambling den?) was awesome.

It was such a quick trip and I was truly the typical tourist, taking in the Craigdarroch (sp) Castle and Government house and the Parliament Building and such; just wanted to soak as much in as possible over the two days.

Not much of a tunnel guy, interested but would most likely not pursue; nevertheless i had an awesome time in your town that is so steeped with fascinating history.

I think this is my first post in a couple of years.

Signing off for now,

Nobody.

The North end of Fan Tan is currently being dug up, didn't get a good look past the pile of dirt from fisgard side- but the workers looked to be more than hip deep in the ground- If anyone is around there again this week I suggest keeping an eye on their progress.

Hey. I'm really new to this whole UE thing. I've only really done the Roundhouse and a few abandoned houses so far, so as you can guess, all these rumours of tunnels are very intriguing.
So, I'm Emmanuel, I'm 17 years old, and I play the bass guitar. If there's anybody still on this thread who's actually been to any of these tunnels, I'd be glad to meet and explore sometime over Spring Break. The stories of Peterman and Tanuki seem particularly interesting. So just let me know if anyone's interested.

Yup. These are the tunnels that don't exist. Or 'were' the tunnels that 'never existed.'

Shit.
So I was just downtown today, and went to take a look at the Janion. They've just started construction on it right now. They have a chute set up on the right side of the building, as well as tarps behind all of the open windows.
It's really not going to be that long before the building gets completely destroyed.
Anybody interested in checking it out next weekend? It'd be great to have a proper look at the building before it gets turned into some soulless apartment building.

If by 'completely destroyed' you mean 'entirely repurposed and made a viable part of Old Town,' yes. Agreed. If by 'completely destroyed' you mean 'reduced to a pile of bricks and tears,' then no. You're quite wrong.

As part of the team that successfully infil'd the Janion more than 8 years ago (and, for the record, we did it first), I can say that anything that works to improve and preserve the building is a welcome thing. As much as I appreciate the Janion for what it was in the past, and what it represented for Victoria's urban exploration community, and for what it represented for Victoria's homeless community and urban poor, the plans this developer has for the building will make the building beautiful and vibrant.

In order to make the building viable for tenants, they're going to have to completely demolish the building. First and foremost, the mortar between the bricks is old and crumbling, which causes a significant safety hazard. The same could be said for the foundation. While it all makes logical sense to me, it just doesn't feel right essentially demolishing a building with such a great history behind it and building what is essentially a modernized facsimile.

On the Janion; if they keep the street facade, the awesome stairway and lower lobby, that's a decent consolation prize. Kind of a miracle it hasn't been gutted by fire, or bought by someone who would buy out/service the right people at city hall, then level the site before starting his project.

The location and ocean view are worth too much, and the cost to bring to seismic code, so they have to build more on the site. I don't think there's as much room in front as it looks in the rendering. I doubt it will look as long and impressive, still better than losing it completely. Of course I'd like to see as much of the old girl preserved, and kept original. Plus those mini low cost suites are a form of budget housing that could help lower income people have funky mini homes.

Nice work TacDical, more photos would be awesome. Sub (marine) base meant is what I.

Good day all,

I would like to introduce myself as Artemis. I have been born and raised in Victoria and have lived here my whole life. Saying this my mother and many past relatives have also lived here their whole entire lives since the early mid 1900's

Growing up I've heard series of stories regarding Underground Tunnels and Gothic praising among these locations. Years past and the explorer inside has been eating at me constantly.

I had to furthermore find information regarding the subject and the key was to find others like myself and go from there.

I located a Site in which helped me find others like ourselves and with the same interest and urge about this lovely Victoria that share the same views about our
a huge secrete below the streets.

http://islandnet.c.../report/prisms.htm

I find myself downtown not looking at pubs, restaurants or clothing, or rather than The Janion, The Nothern Junk buildings and who could forget about Clara- Kramer which all tides into 1, as you all know this.

Broad St which is right beside The Bay down town as you guys already know has amazing prisms also Douglas and needs more recognition for what he original purpose of these tunnels were create for.

http://islandnet.c.../report/prisms.htm

The cages and glass that the regular Citizen walks on everyday look at it just as that, nothing other than normal streets, but those who have eyes know.
The below post is what I have been broadcasting, until a friend introduced me to this site which I am very thankful for.

http://www.gothvic...f9543604c&start=15

KublaKhan,I have been reading your posts which have been awesome stuff. Where could I find your "beneath the Garden Ctiy" I can't find it anywhere.

I have been in touch with Tanuki who has been a great help. My man in crime and I are going to search " The halls of Wonders "
