Southern Discomfort, South Carolina

One weekend, I returned to South Carolina to explore a building I had found with a rather interesting history and a super accessible POE. We decided to walk around the back of the property towards a nearly demolished mill, just to see what we could see. What we found after that still perplexes me: a brick jailhouse. I have not been able to find out very much about this building, or why it was still standing.......why the area around it was all nice and clear when everything around it was overgrown and in ruin. I am still looking into it, but here are some pictures of this very bizarre two cell jail house we found in South Carolina.

(mix of pics from my cell phone and camera. sorry about the quality)1.

That is pretty odd.. Is it located on a farm? Maybe for slaves or something.

Not that I have a better theory about this but do you really think it could be that old?

Pretty Cool. I too, look forward to an update.
So, was this actually on the property of the ongoing demolition, or private farm property adjacent to it?

The thought had crossed my mind. The site I was investigating was a general store (and by general, I mean everything from a department store to pool hall to boys school.......sometimes at the same time) Behind the store was a long building that looked like it could have been part of a farm, but it was so overgrown and the weather was so sweltering that day, I wasn't overtly keen on trudging through the over growth.........so maybe there was some sort of large plantation house with a farm next to the factory and the general store. This could be a good investigational lead. Thanks ^_^

yes.......it's possible. The iron on the bed had nearly disintegrated and was barely hanging on the wall. It looked like something you'd see in an old movie, except there was no mistaking that this was the real thing. creeeeeeeeepy. hahah

Could be a prison farm housing area. Just my $0.02

The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark.
