What's up all? I'm kinda new to the game, and was wondering if anybody was out in the South Sound/Olympia Washington area, and might be interested in showing a newbie around. I've always been into exploring places but didn't know there was such a cult following. I'm always interested in checking out new spots, so if you're down for showing a "rookie" around, please let me know. Also, my work schedule is week on/week off, so in my off time, I pretty much have all week to do whatever. Also, in my work travels, I come home through Astoria Oregon. I've heard of the Shanghai Tunnels there but unlike Portland, I haven't heard of any tours or if there is even access. Does anyone have any knowledge to this?? Being as this place is like #1 on my bucket list to visit!!

Cheers!

I'm fairly new to the game as well, and I'm holed up near Shelton, WA. I'd love to see some awesome sites, because I've had very little luck in finding good spots to explore/photograph.

I'm a newb as well, but near the Seattle area. I have a line on a handful of places that I am sure are part of the database full members have access to, but I just learned about them from word of mouth or from painstakingly searching Google Earth for surrounding spots to investigate. I find that most of the sites in this part of the state are quickly torn down and redeveloped in a hurry, so it's hard to find places to visit of any significance.

I'm from the Westside of Oly. Newb as well, however, I got some good leads that may lead us to a few (localish) areas... I mean Tacoma and Chehalis type local...

I'm experienced but new to both UER and the Washington area (I'm from New England). I've been stationed out here for a year but due to Army BS haven't really had time to network and explore; I'm out in Parkland, and if anybody wants to go out on a weekend or something just let me know; I'll be there with bells on! But not literally bells, that would be weird.

Hello All responders

I am always up for exploring. I have been to many places in the area and outside of Seattle, contact me and lets get together! I would love to meet some new people. I usually travel with my best friend and gf which is great but I would like to branch out. I live in Downtown, Seattle.

I feel like with it out there now, a meetup wouldn't hurt haha. Give us a chance to check some stuff out around here and network.

Hi. I'm new to Washington too, in Seattle, and instead of creating a brand new thread, I figured I'd resurrect an old one. I noticed that a bunch of y'all are from Seattle, too, and I'd love to learn from your experience. I know of one location that has probably been done to death, but I can mentor any aspiring photographers if that helps to sweeten the deal.

Crypton and myself periodically host small meet ups for whichever locals decide to come, the challenge we have is finding locations to take the 30 or so people that inevitably show up. the vast majority of what we know of is "small group only". because such events tend to attract the less experienced, we usually are limited to the locations Crypton and I already know of that we are willing to take a large group of inexperienced people. All that being said, if you plan to come to one of these events, having at least one location to share would be greatly appreciated.

I'll talk to Crypton about hosting another meet up in the next month or so. We'll see what we can get together, any particular date that works for people?

Since we're doing intros, I'm new to Seattle but been doing this for years, one of the founding members of SPECTRE in Atlanta. Anyhow, we did meetups in ATL, and had the same problem (too many noobs), and the trick was to break up into small groups, each led by someone experienced from the crew. It's doable, although kinda a pain.

I recommend NOT sharing locations with Se7eN. He's known to run groups of tourists through locations, and post photos on facebook DESPITE YOU ASKING HIM SPECIFICALLY NOT TO.

If you need details, feel free to PM me.

Please though, really do pm her, she is quite the story teller.

Also, please note for future reference, this is my concerned face.

[edit] should also note, that the explorers referred to as tourists, are all full members here who have independently added locations to the database, and many of whom have actually been at this particular hobby longer than either Crypton or myself have. so yeah, real danger there. All in all, I'd advise you to come to your own conclusions.

Seriously dude... If someone shows you a location they put a lot of work getting into, under the condition you agree to keep it on the DL (in this case not posting photos or having meetups there). You doing the EXACT OPPOSITE of that is pretty shitty.

As for the tourist thing... I don't know who's going to these meetups, and don't mean to insult anyone.
If I was offered to see a cool place, I'd honestly be interested too. But let's recognize it for what it is: a tour guide.

Like I said before, in that specific case, the people who put work into getting into that location didn't want photos or video online. You went against what you agreed. So no matter how unapologetic you choose to be, it was still a shitty thing to do.

actually you simply asked me to not bring a ton of people down there, which i didn't do. i took a small handful of skilled explorers down there, and you blew up and are now apparently trying to make me look bad for it. if i had brought a parade of random noobs down there I'd get it, but i didn't. had i known you wanted to sign off on every last person i took down there, i would have told you to fuck straight off and just figured out my own entrance. it's not like it's overly hard to figure out anyway, the map is public and it's a short logical jump from there. not rocket scientist territory...

now...

The explorer who showed you the location (who is no longer on UER), had you agree beforehand to take no one there, and put no photos online.

A few weeks later, a second explorer (who wasn't involved, but respects the location), contacts me wondering why the location is on facebook, Vimeo, and YouTube.

It was pretty cut and dry. You agreed to something. You went against that. And to make it worse, you resorted to name calling and told us to fuck off in your PM's.

had you agree beforehand to take no one there...

i really wish this was true, as had he done this i would have told him i had every intention of taking people i trust down there. that's not the route he took, and now he's mad that i didn't follow the rules i didn't agree to... makes one scratch their head.

also of note, you were not there for any of this, so how do you know? oh, right that "other explorer" happens to be your significant other. call me crazy but that may make his account of what happened, and yours, slightly biased.

I'm sorry you feel wronged, but once again, what you think happened is slightly at odds with the truth, and you are still off topic.

It was. And as for those who were present and unbiased, maybe Crypton can refresh your memory.

Lie and disagree all you want. I just want to put it out there, that you shouldn't be trusted.
