something tells me getting caught looking for super collider underground tunnels with climbing gear and a bag full of thermite goes a little bit beyond a simple B&E charge.

It's one thing to be poking around a super secret and very active government installation, but to be carrying Thermite as well? You can't handle what's inside those tunnels, and thermite isn't going to help you at all..

The supercollider tunnels are no special place other than being big, man-made, in a stable geological area, and deep underground. They aren't secret or even used for anything, nor is there any particular reason anyone would want you out other than liability.

As far as own own potential liability, we intend to limit that by NOT employing such dramatic methods as thermite. How many people on here pick to access otherwise locked-up sites? That sort of thing goes beyond what we HOPE will be necessary. In fact, we haven't exhausted the possibility that someone may give us access if we ask nicely. Look at the eminent domain section of the PDFs linked and you'll see how many different people own the land coinciding with the ring tunnel. Each remaining access shaft will likely be on the land of a unique owner, so if the tunnel does exist--apparently even that premise is not 100% sound--we would prefer to go that route.

Cool. It'll be most useful to have several people once we have enough information to go take a look around. By the way, the tunnels (whatever there is of them, along with the rest of the facility) were all ceded to the County after the program was cancelled in the 90s. The County sat on it for a while trying to sell, and it's been through a couple private owners since then. The current owner is a chemical company chiefly occupying the main facility; they claim the tunnels are not in use and to be inaccessible.

Stop. Please.

Usually I would post the quickly increasing number of threads on this fucking place. Now please take this conversation off UER. This is a public thread and I don't want this posted here for or sake and yours. Notice a lot of the active and well respected explorers are against this. It's for good reason, we leave it alone.

So if you wanna go, go. This is a publicly searchable thread that anyone can see. Take this conversation else where.

And as fatwax said: don't mention urban exploring WHEN you're caught.

OK, no more discussion of "real exploration" in this thread. We'll have to focus on abstract facts and academic discussion, instead.

First thing to establish: Out of the 2 small rings, and 1 large ring, how much of each has actually been constructed?

I'm just going to drop a hint.

Not that I heard to many stories during my post 9-11 military career.
DHS does not take kindly to civilians gaining any access to government areas.
NSA is DHS's little automatic snitch, to guess that they have already flagged this thread would be an understatement. This is posted on a watch board somewhere where guys laughing at the response you have.
As much as I admire your spirit, I would abandon this idea. There are some things that just aren't worth the potential hazards. No matter what an ego boost, or how large it makes your junk feel. The idea that you plan to blow your way into a government secure area just makes you sound like a kid trying to get noticed by big boys.

The facility hasn't been owned by the government for many years--I don't think any of the three-letter-agencies care. What do you think is in the tunnels, an alien space ship? Osama bin laden? Jimmy Hoffa?

I just looked at a shitload of photos from a comprehensive image search and read a few active blogs about the collider tunnels. It seems that they've seen some kind of activity or another in regards to civilians recently exploring them.
Best of luck to you wr0x2. Hopefully the next time I do another search, I see your photos and read your story.

I believe the tunnels he's looking for are the huge one's Lemley dug out.

Here's the best blog of the bunch I found.

Yes, Radical_Ed, those are exactly the tunnels.

Also, I believe I've found the answer to approximately how MUCH of these tunnels there is. The ring was planned to be 54 miles in circumference. A small section, approximately 1/8 of the total ring, was excavated before the project cancellation. So, there are probably 5-7 miles of "real" tunnel in addition to the small, flooded circular injection tunnels comprising the rest.

Thanks for posting pics, btw. I don't understand how any self-respecting UER can see that and not be interested.

Because we've all been over this several times. Have you bothered at all to use the search button? You might think you're the only person to have this idea, but trust me, you're not. All you're doing is blowing the location up in a public thread. Several people have asked you to stop...

On top of that, you're not bringing anything useful or interesting to the table that we haven't already seen...

No known explorers has been into the main ring tunnel, unless you want to correct me on that. Furthermore, the main facility UERs have accessed in the past is now active and inaccessible. The part WE want to access is totally abandoned, and possibly not even possible to access. There is little more risk discussing THIS particular site than any other on this forum.

Finally, as far as I know there have been no serious efforts to access this ring, and certainly no documentation of any visits. I want to go into the ring, and document it for other UERs to see. If successful, that would certainly be something new, don't you think?

I'm an 06. I don't post much, but I've seen the threads.

Difference between the other threads and this one, is that I have the means and the desire to make an expedition happen.
