The other Cambria Air Force Station

Hey all,

I was tooling around Google and Wikipedia looking for something to do this weekend when I came across this gem of a site. Since getting up to the Cambria Air Force Station is nigh impossible these days, I found the annex for it. This place is a AN/FPS-14 Gap Filler site, and it covered the range that the Cambria station could not. By sheer luck, it also happened to be in the Williams Hill Recreation area. that gave me a clean drive up and a chance to 'splore with my boys. This is also the site of the Colandra Lookout tower for the CDF(Cal Fire). The tower looks to be out of commission, but the radar site has been re-purposed by Fort Hunter-Ligget for COM purposes. I would have gotten inside the fence, but I didn't want to risk it with the boys there. Not to mention, they stuffed that whole thing with razor wire! As an added bonus, you get a picture of my thumb in almost every shot!On the way back, we hit a derelict ranch house. Thanks for looking.

Lat/Long for the site. (from Wiki1.

Nice place. The other stuff up there was still active, but the lookout tower was done and decaying. The funny thing about the re purposed Air base antenna was that it switched hands from the Air Force to the Army(I think). I was planning on doing an FOIA request to the BLM to see the papers from when it changed hands.
