| | | Beautiful shots as always Aurelie, we miss you back in the SE. I'm looking forward to pics from the other folks and I hope that even more people come out next time. And yes TomUE that is SP.E.C.T.R.E. as in 007, however we changed the acronym around slightly and if I was to tell you what it really stood for than well..... We would just have to kill you than ;)

| | | Wow this sounds awesome, I wish I joined UER sooner so I would have known about it. Do you have these sort of informal get-togethers often?

| | | Finally, the 36-hr wait period is over! I'm really excited that someone pointed me to here. I'm a Seattle photographer very interested in seeing Seattle in different uncommon ways. I love aurelie's photos and hope to meet up with some other photogs to do some exploring. Some of my work can be found on Facebook at Anthony May Photography. - Anthony

| | | I'm going to take the blame for not hosting another one of these sooner. been trying to scout out some new easier locations, as we seemed to have exhausted our library of interesting easy locations. that being said, we will likely try and host another one of these towards the end of this month/beginning of the next.

| | | No, I'm not planning a daring bank heist. I know I've spoken with some of the folks around here directly about this but I guess it's a good time to make a pre-announcement about it publicly in case anyone has any additional ideas. I'm thinking of putting together a skills picnic later this month - no exploring planned, just sharing and safely practicing some random but interesting skills and knowledge and hopefully meeting some new like-minded people. Plus: food. It would focus on safely teaching and practicing the Single Rope Technique (SRT) that is used when exploring not only natural caves but also abandoned mines and all sorts of other cool vertical UE sites, plus a bit of legal lockpicking and perhaps some other topics that people might find interesting thrown in for fun. Of course it would all be weather permitting and the forecasts aren't out this far in advance but I was thinking of starting around midday Saturday the 22nd of June and finishing up in time to get the rigging removed well before it starts getting dark - but I would be open to suggestions if folks chime in saying that that is an inconvenient date. If that date sounds good for people then I'll make a proper 'event' for it with coordinates. Word on the street is that there might be prizes and giveaways for people who show up and learn a new skill! I've got a location here in the city in mind where I have practiced and taught vertical access skills several times over the past few years with and to various vertical exploration/rescue groups, but this would be the first one just for us UER cats. The idea would be for me to show up early and rig some ropes up - including a beginners station where we can lower someone easily if they encounter any issues as well as a sort of SRT low-ropes-course for more advanced folks. Everything will be kept controlled and relatively close to the ground and we'll focus on the basics of rope climbing and rappelling, on how to climb rope efficiently without tiring yourself out, and if we have time I might demonstrate a few basic self-rescue and small-team-rescue skills. My goal is to get people proficient with Prussics as well as executing a Changeover Maneuver from climbing to rappelling using the Frog System. If you already know that stuff or get those skills down quickly I hope to have a course that includes some rebelays and a tyrolean rigged for people to safely play and practice on. I also have a growing pile of locksport tools and cutaway/practice locks so I was thinking of setting up a little lockpicking station where people can see how they work and try their hand at opening a few - I'm no expert though so perhaps some of you can show me a thing or two. No, it is not illegal to have locksmith tools in WA state or to use them on locks that you have permission to pick. ;) I'll invite people to bring food and we'll all have a picnic! The location I'm thinking of is in one of our city's large lovely parks and it features several botanical and architectural sights. I'd love it if someone volunteered to offer a photography workshop! Again, feedback welcome.

There's still time to put in your two weeks notice and keep the good reference for your resume. ;) [last edit 6/7/2013 12:08 PM by The_James - edited 1 times]

| | | James, Forgot to mention that I got scheduled for overtime on that Saturday from 9am-5pm. It only happens twice a year and unfortunately it was supposed to happen last month but got pushed back. Can't get out of this one. I will see where you guys are at around the time I get off (which can vary), but if I can't make it, I hope the event goes well!
