Pics from a recent Bay Area UE meetup. This is the 16st Train Station in Oakland. It opened in 1912 and closed shortly after the 1989 Earthquake.1.

Fantastic location, even if slightly OT for the Pacific Northwest forum. ;) Apparently, it's actively undergoing restoration. Did you encounter any signs of that inside? Looks like they've repaired the broken windows, at least.

I love the large (presumably dead) plants inside the main hall.

What an incredibly beautiful place! There are countless possibilities for what a building like this could be preserved into. I hope somebody scoops this up and does just that because it'd be horrible to see it go to waste.

I spoke too soon; apparently a restoration project is underway. It'll be a great thing once it's done. But since it's quite a massive undertaking, it'll be a while before it's done. http://www.16thstreetstation.com
