Any Anchoragites out there?

While normally located in Iowa, at the moment, as it happens I was raised by moose and am flying home in a week to be there well into January (ideal time to visit, huh??). Now, I will fully admit that I am not that hard core and the last report I had from home said something like -28, which means there will probably not be abandonment-putzing of any stripe. That said, if anyone wants to have coffee some time in the big town and stare resentfully into the darkness at 3pm, you should totally hit me up. Even if I'm not into any willful trespass this month, I'd love people's stories of around the great land of my upbringing cause I really haven't done anything up there and... one day I'll return to my senses and visit in summer.

North to the future!! We don't care how they do it outside! Yeah Alaska!

Edited to fix sentence structure or else as an English major I am required to go cry myself to sleep.

Aha! A wild Alaskan Urban Explorer appears!!

I'm just finishing up semester at college in Fairbanks and I'll be back in Anchorage this Sunday. Haven't been exploring that often because of school and general laziness but I'd be down for a meetup at some point after the holidays when I have free time.

Yay!! I'd figured this was kind of as long shot since, you know, I grew up out there and know the infernal secrets about how there are only ever about 4 of us in the state at any given time. Making the long trek home on Monday and then it's straight to work for me (mum owns a toy store and it's That Time.) But we should totally work it in at some point in the next couple of weeks. Modern Dwellers? Spicy hot chocolate? YES?! Or, you know. Whatevs.

I came across some maps of the mines over by Sutton, not sure how doable they area. Haven't heard of anyone checking those out.

Always a pretty drive out that way. If I can A: make it back during a more humane time of year and B: tear myself away from howling off the sea cliffs south of town, I might go nose around out there, at least a little.

Is your 'usually Alaska' a seasonal thing or a 'now MSP' relocation thing?

(I would like to leave the Seattle airport, now. Can I go home?)

It's usually MSP nowadays. I went and bought a house here in the south (Minnesotans get all pissy when I call it "Down South", lol).

If you haven't seen it, I have some Anchorage stuff on my website, but it's from a while ago: http://dfgis.dyndn...0/df/anchorage.htm

Would they prefer you just called them all the lower states? The little states, perhaps?

No one understands us. (Hey, Anchorage has TWO Olive Gardens now. We are so coming up in the world.)

I'm in Anchorage now. Let me know when you have some free time. Hey if you've spotted some potential exploration spots I might be down for some wintertime UE.

I am also in Anchorage! I'll probably have a fair bit of schedule flexibility once xmas is over and done with, but before then is pretty shot. The fambly business is toys.

Freak's list of explorations linked above (PS THANKS for the site! I'm slowly going through all those photos) look like some pretty neat things, but the god's honest truth is work is kicking my ass to begin with and I'm not frankly sure how my motivation is going to be to go out in the cold unnecessarily at the moment. But who knows, after the retail rush is over I might feel differently. Shall I message you my telephone number then and we could co-ordinate by text next week or something?
