Vacated trailer park in west Portland

On of my favorite spots, especially if you need a break claustrophobic buildings. This place used to be the site of a large trailer park. A development company moved in an removed all the trailers, but left the everything else intact, most importantly all the trees. Throughout the year all of the trees and plants on the site produce a huge variety of edibles. This past year's highlights include grapes, asian pears, cherries, pineapple quince, and figs.
There are several access points, long twisting roads, false dead-ends, and secret paths through the thickets. Most of the area is glass and thorn free, so a great place to bring your four-legged explorer friends. Be aware that where the pavement meets the curb, be aware of the several open manholes that drop into shallow storm drains. The grass is generally tall enough to conceal other people lurking around.
On that point, there are a few campsites around the property. These are generally under larger trees with braided vines and abundant garbage. A while back, someone was burning mattresses near the eastern boarder, so watch out. There is also a fair bit of fresh graffiti on the south and middle fences.
The biggest danger is in the northeast end of the lot. There is an entrance cut out of the undergrowth that leads to a sizable homeless encampment. There is only one entrance/exit, with steep earth ledges and a stream/pond surrounding the camp. There is a ton of debris including empty propane tanks, stolen streetlight posts, garbage, and drug paraphernalia. This is not a place you want to get caught.

Did you go on a weekend? I just went over there to pick apples and the place is positively crawling with construction crew/equipment on the south end of the property. The west side, a little less so, but still a lot of activity.

Yeah. We went on Sunday. The construction equipment was all parked on the road that is parallel to the south edge of the premises.
