Portland, OR - Info RE: The Eastside 'Big Pipe'??

Ive spent the last couple hours digging & prying for any shreds of practical (to us) and useable information about the Big Pipe (anybody who doesnt know wth Im talking about, there's a linky at the end of this post)

Everything I dug up was superficial, basic shit; kudos from the public & a promise that itll be the savior of Shit Creek - er, the Willamette River.

Im not expecting to find full color maps, co-ordinates of all the entrances, and a golden key to all of it, but damn, SOMEthing of substance would be SO rad.

Ive stood on the big concrete circle that we all know caps the spot where the massive TBMs individual pieces were lowered down and assembled, looking down through the grated squares...you can only see about 7-8 feet down through there, into a small concrete 'room', maybe 15x15...there are two, one on each edge of the big circle...(I know, I know, circles dont have an edge!...I mean on one side, close to the perimeter)...

...In eaxh one of those 'rooms', on the far end is a 'hole'...there is just no other word to describe it - and down that hole, you can hear the sounds of water...and when it eains, a LOT of water.

And I want to see exactly what's down there. How big that hole, rather, that TUNNEL, is!...are there 'service' type corridors? Are there regular manholes that go down? Cuz if so, its a fuck of a ling drop should you slip from a rung...that buried tunnel is DEEP...in spots over 10-stories down, according to media articles.

Im not lazy, and frankly, I prefer to do my OWN damn research, but looks like this tjme I need a lil hell. So Im calling on the collective wisdom of UER.

Easier just to go to the east coast, there's one like it a few thousand miles down I90 from you that doesn't require rappelling hundreds of feet.

Forgotten but not gone.

Sorry, but driving 3000 miles is really a lot harder than rappelling! It's less than 100 feet anyway, and that's the tallest shaft.

Actually, a set of rappelling gear costs more than a trip out west. So it's a perfectly reasonable alternative.
