Alright, I must ask, do you ever actually go inside of the places you explore? Recently you have posted several threads, and while I understand and respect your appreciation for UE, a lot of these don't much seem like much more than taking pics of bridges and such. Some of your shots are good, but I am just curious if you have ever actually explored something on the inside?

Is it a requirement to go into a building at every location I shoot? The question seems to be pointed as to say it is an issue and is expected.

I believe I only posted one thread on a bridge 'and such', the old Sunday creek bridge. An old school log bridge and it's replacement. The images of it were when it was closed and awaiting demolition. Followed by it's replacement.

I posted images from the inside of one of the barns and from the inside of the old school district building. Sorry I did not do a B&E in the old Group Heath hospital. I was unlikely to get any interesting shoots of the place before getting arrested.

I try to tread lightly on places I explore. I do not plan on damaging anything to gain access or while exploring a site. I have entered a number of structures by access created by others but seem to have less good shots from within. As I do more, I am sure I will get better at that.

Going through the FAQ, I do not see what should or should not be posted. I looked at other posting to get a feel while waiting for my membership to kick in. I was thinking these were relevant and similar posting to others I have seen but yes, I do not focus on interior as much as some other members.

If they are not in keeping with this forum, I will happily remove my posting and leave.

No going into every building is not required. I said "do you ever" as in are there any buildings of which you go inside?

I am not asking you to get arrested or to "B&E" anything.

You posted photos of Satsop and all were external. I am aware that Satsop is stunning from the outside, but it is also gorgeous on the inside. Satsop is a considerably decent drive from Seattle, so going there to just take exterior photos seems almost a waste (my opinion really), and getting inside is really just as simple as asking for permission. So, no B&E for us there. It was just a matter of asking. If you DID go inside, and I am wrong, I would love to see the photos.

As far as your "bridges and such" go, here is one of your recent threads.

As cool as this is, I do this for a living, I don't tend to post it on UER though.

This qualifies under "bridges and such", to me.

And of course, your bridge.

I will admit that I DID miss the house you went into, though, when I was looking through your post history.

Either way, I am not telling you to go smash in some windows to gain access. Hell, I am not even asking you to pull boards off them. I was simply asking you if you went inside buildings. Not the medical one specifically. To this day I have still never broken into a building to gain access to it.

A lot of times the interior is focused on because that's part of urban exploration and seeing whats behind closed doors (or underground or on top), seeing what most people don't see. Its why it's called urban exploring and not just urban living and sight seeing.

So, I was not attacking you when I asked my question, it was merely asking a question. Whether you choose to remove your photos and leave, really is your own decision.

Yes, I do go into the places I shoot, if I feel like it.

The old school building building came out interesting where the light came through to fallen plaster lap. That was bad for birds as it made it hard for them to leave the room. Flying up between the boards harder then going down and in. So not only was that area filled with bird crap, it had plenty of bodies as well. I should have had a mask for that one. One horrid smell.

Barns always seem to have enough openings to let the birds out. So I find them filled with layers of bird crap but less bodies. Ha. Unless the local cats get lucky.

It is always interesting what is left behind these structures and the urban decay from time.

Personally, I love the interplay of lighting to the texture of my subjects. The curling of the paint and boards. The symmetricalness of lines. The randomness of rust and the strange times rust has symmetry. Weathering on long neglected items. The play of nature working it's way back into 'mans work' and where it finds places to encroach.

The Wilberton tunnel, well that was as close as I could get to going into to it before being shoo'ed off. It was an active demolition scene of a defunct tunnel. Technically, that was a tunnel, not a bridge and such but I can see how you put it in as 'such'.

I am not sure there is a difference between Urban Sightseeing and Urban Exploration except semantics and perception. My guess is you see sightseeing as less hard core then exploration. In that light, I am often a sightseer who explores as I can. I like getting into those hidden areas when I can. I hope that helps answer your question for me.

There isn't. Most of us call the former "scouting," though. You're out there; this is the way to find new, cool stuff. Armchair scouting over the internet just doesn't work as well, even for public works. Nice shots!

Ha, yah, armchair scouting is a tad less satisfying. The only reason I mentioned the sightseeing to UE is from what Astro said in those regards.

Thanks.

Most of these images are IR. I think that gives a more 'other worldly' quality to the plant life and this interplay with the decay/lines of architecture is interesting.

I am still trying to find the best way to edit the images in color. The short cut is to change them to grey scale but I like the colors but do not want all the images pink. Pink being the how my camera records IR. Anyone who knows IR photography, I would love some tips or tricks. I feel I am just a hack at this point.

What I meant was basically like an everyday person who walks around taking photos of architecture. I just am still unsure exactly what to call it. Its like tourist but not in popular areas, like the Space Needle or something. So that was about the only way I could put it. Either way, Phule, I meant no offense to your posts, it was merely a question.

How'd you get the IR filter out of your camera? Or do they all have them?

IR filters. My camera can slide the IR filter out of the way with a switch on the side. I had no idea it could do this when I got it and was pleasantly surprised when I wanted to get into IR photographing.

As I have looked into it more, you can remove the filters or change the filter, to prevent the blocking of IR light. Same for UV light. The downside of modifying a camera is then you have to add lenses when you want them blocked again.

I have found many sites that show DIY ways to do this for random camera models. A great use for a 'backup camera'. See the link below for access to one.

My primary camera is a Sony H-9. A simple camera. Switching it to night shot mode removes the IR filter. The issue is, at the same time, it switches camera mode to night shot mode. This mode has been altered in firm ware to prevent IR photographing. Not to prevent people like me or forensic people for seeing IR. There is some very seedy uses for IR photography. So Sony makes this less practical and makes night shot mode next to useless.

I found a simple way around this, on my camera but this leads to all my IR shots starting out very pink. Not me trying to express my feminine side, ha. I like pink as a color, just not EVERY time I take IR.

So some day, I will get one of those used cameras and do the real DIY trick to get real IR or better IR.

http://shop.lifepi...frared-IR-only-c2/

This link is a company that offers a service to do it and gives away DIY steps as well. These are all, do at your own risk. I hope this helps answer your question. Have a great weekend.
