Lime Oregon to be rebuilt as a hippie town?

Some trustifundian is exploring the idea of turning the old Lime Concrete plant into a condo complex and hippie housing.

Hmm.... So far Baker County is looking for more "concrete" synopsis that this could ever work out.

Huh. We all wish we could build a small self-sufficient utopia somewhere. It's nice to have wishes, but I doubt anything will come of this. SO in the meantime, how's this place for exploring?

This places looks awesome. I'd love to get out there to see it sometime!

And I agree with olyeso; I don't think you have to worry about that happening anytime soon.

EPA wont let this happen. They haven't allowed any type of building on the site due to contaminated soil and water. Just what we need also. One "eyesore" for another eyesore (hippietown). I love how he says he would bring in millions of dollars of revenue. Unless they legalize pot, this isn't going to happen.

About half of it has been torn down. Its just alright to explore at this point. I wouldn't go out of my way.

Self-sufficiency in the desert, on contaminated land. Good luck with that.

Otherwise, hippy towns can be quite profitable in Oregon (just not in the millions):

Yeah, Oregon Country Fair is NOWHERE near Lime, Oregon. There is a HUGE difference between Eugene and Baker County...Somewhere on the order of 450 miles of travel between the two places. Not to mention a complete political shift from one extreme side of the isle to another.

I've lived in both places and am well aware, thanks.

Hence, the "otherwise" in my original post, which was in response to jasonj. Obviously, this endeavor would not work.

Those are some good pictures. Too bad you didn't have that much time. I can spend hours there, even after being there around 30 times. There is so much to see even after the scraping demolition it went through a year back.

Thanks, I also went to what looked like a one room school house in Lime but reached my upload limit on flickr and I'm to cheap to pay them so I would still like to share some pics of it next month. A lot of rat/mouse poop so I will invest in respirator on next outing.

Been here a few times, the last was when I was moving from Seattle to Denver. Cool find, but I don't think this could ever suffice as a town. Way too much effort with getting it EPA approved.

If you rest, you rust.

Thanks for the heads up about the respirators. We'll be sure to bring them when we head over there!
