Just a few tidbits of wisdom on the good ole Mount Airy Lodge complex. I believe the one that you saw was infact Strickland's Mountain Lodge. It's right down the road on the right if you're driving to 611.

The other part of Mount Airy is Pocono Gardens. It's not directly connected like Strickland's is. The Pocono Palace you speak of is actually a Ceaser's Resort which is still very much operational.

How do I know all this? It used to be right down the road from where me and Carrie lived in PA.

for my own curiosity can you explain that again?? My understanding was that Mt. Airy Resorts closed, including Mt Airy Lodge, Stricklands, and the Palace. Address searches came up with them all right there on Woodlawn Road or whatever.

So the smaller place on the right going donw the hill was stricklands and the big one along the golf course is Mt. Airy and the Palace is not closed or right there??

Just curious, thanks

Pocono Palace is owned by Ceasers. It's right down the road from Mt Airy Lodge/Stricklands, but isn't part of it. What you are thinking of is Pocono Gardens.

It works such as this....if you turn off of 611 you hit Stricklands first...then Mount Airy....then if you make a few more turns off of Woodlawn you'll hit Pocono Gardens. It's hidden very well for the most part.

So Pocono Gardens is part of the Mt. Airy compound, but not right obvious - Pocono Palace is owned by Caesars and is still open (and has the champagne tubs)?? Is the Gardens open or closed??

Now I'm gonna have to go back and get it straight!

Pocono Gardens=Closed
Pocono Palace=Opened and owned by Ceasars
I think they might have champagne glass hot tubs, but I'm not sure. Ceasers Brookdale has the hot tubs for sure.

Somewhere at the Mt. Airy complex there has got to be the champagne glass hot tubs. I'm remembering the commercials that drove this whole expedition, and they definately featured the champagne glass tub - can anyone back me up here??

2 days ago I went up to the Mt. Airy site & was upset that it was nothing more than a hole in the ground, I really wanted to see it before it was tore down. I was following the auction as much as I could via the internet, but that new info gradually dried up & became old news.
I stayed at the Stricklands Mountain Inn in 1989, and took a ride over there & IT WAS STILL THERE !!
It's abandoned but perfectly intact, aging gracefully. I didn't have my camera, which I was pissed, but wandered around, most of the buildings are open & fully accessable.
Are you planning any trips to the Stricklands and if so, please let me know !!

Where is Stricklands in relation to the old lodge?? I've wanted to check it out, but haven't been able to find it. Did you find Pocono Gardens - apparently that is still standing too. I think some folks may be heading out there after the new year...myself included..

VERY glad to hear from you. I'm sure you'll find Stricklands appealing, since you did such a fantastic job at Mt. Airy.(Question, why didn't ya take any pictures of the "Suicide bedroom ??) !!
When I was there the other day, there wasn't a soul around, everything was intact, with some deterioration, signs falling down, rotten wood, a few smashed windows, but mostly everything was there, or everything for that matter, the lodge & guestroom we were in was still furnished.Power was off in the chalet.
If you come in from interstate 80, get off at the Scotrun exit. It should be the very next right turn after the Mt. Airy Golf course sign. It sort of makes a sharp right turn, with an old rustic cabin type building at the right. A large black billboard type sign should be at the turn, which was the former Stricklands sign.
Some of the roads at the lanes for the guest chalets are blocked off with boulders, so you might have to park alongside the main road & risk being seen, or walk up from the main road.
There is a large wooden awning type thing, you can't miss it. You would drive through it, and register at the building on the left. The door is boarded up tight, but you'll see that a big payne of glass is smashed out (access ??).
Thats where the tall, black super model type girl told me back in 1989 that they didn't take personal checks !!
Walk forward to the gift shop & let me know if anything is in there.
There was a pool, shuffleboard court, HUGE didning room, and a therater type building for the night club acts. There are supposed to be larger "Mansionettes " on the property, possibly further up the road.
Stricklands was a old type resort, and Emil Wagner bought it from the Strickland family.
PLEASE reply & keep me very posted !!

Bigduke6,
Were you able to get any pictures of Stricklands? Some teaser shots? I hope Bratchny makes the trip in the near future.
