| | Brown Palace Car Park. Home to the "Manlift" Belt, amazing murals, and victorian era artifacts. < on 1/28/2012 4:10 AM >
| | | The parking structure is located a block north of the Brown Palace on Glenarm, between 18th and 17th. These murals are in the vestibule to the elevators and stairs on the first floor.
Look at the detail. You can see individual people standing in front of the windows, and individual mountains on the earth below.
The Manlift Belt. My guess is this was the elevator for the valets back before OSHA came and ruined all the fun.
I made my way up to the top floor.
Half of the top floor of the structure serves as storage for the Brown Palace. Peering into the windows I saw office furniture, old victorian claw foot tubs, and many brown and rotted books and papers. Also on the top floor is a five-six story art deco style tower and the elevator engine room.
So there you have it. One interesting car park.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

| | | I've been to most of these places before, but not the mural place. Most of the indoor parking garages and fire escapes are really neat and provide access into otherwise not extremely public buildings downtown(The more you know). Very cool photos! I'll have to look for those murals, they took awesome, and no offence but I'm not sure your photos do them all the justice they deserve. [last edit 1/28/2012 6:51 AM by miirkat - edited 1 times]

| | | Those things are awesome! I'd love to try one sometime. Makes you wonder how many people had skulls crushed in or lost limbs using them. Nice site =) Manlift pics
Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =) |

I thought the same thing. It'd be fun until your pants get caught on the belt.

| | | These are the amazing inventions that we get to have when Gov agencies like OSHA aren't taking all the fun out of the workplace. [last edit 1/29/2012 6:41 AM by Therrin - edited 1 times]

| | | how the hell did i never see the belt-o-vator in there before?! this is easily one of my favourite spots in the city. due to the murals, i affectionately refer to it as the 'Star Wars garage'. a little history: this building was built in 1929 as the Union Bus Terminal, and was the first multi-story car park in the city. you can still see where the buses boarded on the first level, next to the cobbler's shop (which used to be the waiting room/lobby). Beaux-arts style, architect unknown. from the roof:

Nice shot. Thanks for background info. I had heard it used to be a bus terminal as well. I wish I knew more about the murals and the artist behind them. I forgot to see if there was any signature on them.
