English please?

Basically, he's saying who are we to judge what a "proper" UE photo is. Everybody has their different styles of photog. I think most of us, myself included, try to get shots without people in them. But others may treat it like a day out with friends to take photos of themselves at these places. I can appreciate that. But TJ, your hands are damn shaky (if they are in fact your hands), lol.

Thank god you cant add to the location DB, I fail to see what pictures from this trip you would have used. Also your post has little to nothing to do with exploring
I see some dudes riding a shrimp boat, a dude rowing a boat, two girls in front of a wall, and some horrible pictures at night with lights in the back ground. Why dont you browse the forums a little more to get an idea of what goes on here.

Wow, think you guys are being harsh enough? :-/

This is over at Hartlen Point, isn't it? I added pics of the underground area a couple years ago. We usually just stick finds like this in the Halifax Defence Complex thread.

McNabs Island work to be discussed

Thu, Apr 14 - 4:54 AM

Visitors to McNabs Island in Halifax Harbour will get the first look at the restored Fort McNab next month, but those who can’t wait can get a preview tonight.

Known as the Gatekeeper of Halifax Harbour, the fort will be discussed at the annual general meeting of the Friends of McNabs Island Society. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic’s small-craft gallery.

Carla Wheaton of Parks Canada will discuss the conservation and restoration project at the fort, which is a national historic site. Work included repairing concrete structures and restoring metalwork.

Two of the fort’s original cannons, which had been moved to Point Pleasant Park and York Redoubt, were moved back to the fort as well. The breech-loading design was innovative when they were installed at the fort in 1892.

"The Fort McNab restoration will enhance the island’s appeal and boost the number of visitors coming to the island," society president Cathy McCarthy said in a news release.

"This showcase project by Parks Canada complements the work our society has done to preserve and protect the island over the past 21 years, and more recently, to rebuild the trails leading to Fort McNab."

The fort served as a gun battery for about 70 years. After being decommissioned in 1959, it became a Parks Canada property.

I was doing some research at NSARM about something I'm working on and came across this fonds

If you want a starting point about locating any tunnels, it would be with this collection.

and I think this has already been posted, but here it is again because this thread is ridiculously long.

and all their photos have been digitized

I post this every year.

c/o Friends of McNabs Island

McNabs Island Beach Cleanup Results

(June 6, 2011) Yesterday on World Environment Day June 5, 260 volunteers descended upon McNabs and Lawlor Islands Provincial Park to clean up the beaches. Volunteers of all ages spent World Environment Day “thinking globally, but acting locally.”

In total, volunteers collected 550 bags of garbage and recyclables from the beaches. Among the unusual item found on the beaches were: a Vancouver Canucks sandal, a car seat from a Cadillac, a manual typewriter, an old television, an assortment of plastic action figures, toy soldiers and dolls, a few pillows and a mattress, 12 gauge shotgun shells, a military marine flare, the top to a pot belly stove, a old glass medicine vile, chemical dust masks, and an election sign from Liberal Scott Hemming’s unsuccessful attempt to unseat Peter Stoffer, MP for Sackville – Eastern Shore. Coincidentally, Mr. Stoffer was one of the volunteers who took part in the daylong cleanup of McNabs Island, which is in his riding.

Among the recurring items found in the beach debris were plastic and Styrofoam sheets, old tires, Tim Horton’s coffee cups and plastic tampon applicators. In spite of the fact that the HRM sewage treatment plants are operational, plastic garbage from the sewer system still continues to plague the beaches of this beautiful provincial park.

This is the twentieth consecutive year that the Friends of McNabs Island Society has organized a cleanup of McNabs Island. Since 1991, volunteers have collected a staggering 10,000 bags of garbage and recyclables from the beaches of this Provincial Park and national historic site. The McNabs and Lawlor Islands Provincial Park cleanup is the longest running and largest cleanup in the Maritimes.

Thanks to all the volunteers who gave up a beautiful Sunday to make World Environment Day a success on McNabs Island. Thanks to Clean Nova Scotia for providing garbage bags; Schooner Industrial and Esso – Imperial Oil for providing gloves; Murphy’s Cable Wharf in Halifax and A & M Sea Charters in Eastern Passage for transporting volunteers; Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources staff for helping transport the garbage to a central location and Edge Marine for transporting the garbage by barge to Eastern Passage where it was loaded into two HRM garbage trucks for final disposal and recycling.

Due to recent "wild west" incidents on McNabs Island the NS Department of Natural Resources has put an ALCOHOL BAN in place in the provincial park. This will make the island a safer place for visitors and campers. Enforcement officers have the authority to tell campers and others with alcohol to dispose of it or leave the island.

I have a gd camping trip planned... :\

What the hell kind of "wild west" incidents happened over there recently??

Seriously, some shithead was firing a gun off over there and now I can't bring a couple beers with me? If I get found over there with alcohol, does that mean I can materialize a firearm? Enforcement sucks. I'm guessing they're sending ARMED DNR Conservation Officers over to pour my beer?

Have a gun problem in your city? Ban alcohol. Problem solved!

Thusly the way the world works, have a problem with this lets solve it by getting rid of something that might have to do with it! Does it in the end have anything to do with alcohol? Possibly! But will it solve anything? No not really, it annoys me that the choices of others destroy the options others used to have

Idiot 1: lets get drunk and shoot our beer cans!!!
Idiot 2: OK!!!!!

thusly ruining our ability to drink there...

I was looking at a 19th century map of Halifax recently and saw that there was at one point a prison at Point Pleasant Park. Anyone know anything about this and if anything is left?

I know of the map you're talking about. It's an 1800's map. The penitentiary is in what's now upper class housing.

I've been to the Fort McNabs while they were fixing it up, got some pictures and was told to leave because it was unsafe! And Georges Island for a tour once. Could bring up some pictures, but my favourite is York Redoubt for it's concrete and stuff. I love those little outposts that have a view over the ocean... here's a picture I took in one of them.

EDIT: Oooh when we went camping on McNabs we found an old concrete something in the woods it was really cool. No idea what it was for though.

They're light emplacements. The foundations getting so washed out around the three at York Shore Battery, they'll be falling into the ocean sooner or later.
