~ Autumn's Harmony & Mechanical Graveyard ~

Two posts at same time, or something like that. First there were really beautiful and rare weather - there were thick fog for all day. Of course that day was that one when I did have other things to do... Anyway I did steal few moments at my most photographed one, so here we go with autumn's harmony.

Morning and Garden Pond:

November:

Road to Nowhere:

Autumn's Harmony:

Tree and Roof:

So that's everything about that. And then to real heavy metal stuff. This year is amazing - this is already second location with abandoned "heavy duty machines", and I've try to find something like this for many years, without luck. And now... My friend did after long day with climbing on stones and other strange hobbies just choose a small forest road going through house yard... And there these was. Pictures are from two trips to there, latest one at today (friday). Weather was rainy, so that softness in some pictures is real stuff from my camera, not added by computer.

But anyway, first I shall introduce old (and dead) Finnish truck mark, Vanaja:

And next to it there were excavator, made by Ford:

Next there were bit lighter stuff from U.S.S.R.

And beyond the naked trees... One more excavator made by Ford:

And between those, there were bulldozer made by Allis-Chalmers:

And last... One more bulldozer made by AC:

-----

And off-topic comes again... From the swamp! (change, what that is???)

Thanks for watching.

Awesome as usual. I don't know what kind of editing techniques you're doing but it's working. Very well done.

Very nice, I like them all. The condensation on the metal is a sure sign that the nasty white stuff is going to fall shortly.

The editing is amazing! What did you do exactly?

It's not where it goes, it's where it can lead you to.

Awesome work as always. I like heavy machinery and you shot this well. I love that whole tree growing out of the hood of the pink car.

I will try to answer something - it's 01:48 now, 2 litres beer, few whiskey shots and somewhat vodka, so if someone gets anything from this... I am quite... amazed.

Thank you very much. And what comes to my techinique, more about that down from there...

Thanks. And thanks to weather too; it did rain all the time, it was actually really close that I didn't turn back home before I did even get there... Now I am glad that I didn't.

That dew and red was first point where I did get that "this could be photo" mood... Good taste you have!

Thanks again... Feels always good when anyone writes anything like that...Especially because I often think that "should I post this or are people already (too) full with this shit". Thank you very much! ^^

love the road to nowhere, and the macros too, glad to see you're still going!

Good taste... And I will be going as far as my camera works (don't know how far it will with my treatment).

And after this... My magical technique!

First of all I photograph with Canon PowerShot S5 Is. Pictures like these in this post... I'll shoot them in Av mode, where I choose aperture (=how far picture will be sharp) and camera does anything else. I use tripod and exposure bracketing; it means that my camera shoots 3 pictures with different exposures by one shot. One is "normal", second is much darker and third is lighter. I also try to look pictures... Hmmm, how could I say it... Like pictures, just pictures or something like that. I mean without surrounding atmosphere (it is really easy to let atmosphere mix your mind but at the end picture is just a picture without that atmosphere surround). I'll often try to catch details (they are often much more interesting than pictures including everything (I'll think)).

Good idea can be also photographing with "bad" weather, rain, fog, (like with these pictures), snow etc. Mood is very much different comparing to good weather. And use different times, mornings, evenings etc. Light is different at those moments comparing to ordinary daylight, and it means lot.

Back home I use Photomatix Pro to get them together to hdr picture. I am very lazy guy, so I will try to do as little as possible (and to get that I will try to get composition as good as possible already when photographing). Here comes short summary about Photomatix values that I play with (those "important" things are values that I'll play most):

Strength: Always at 100

Color Saturation: Always 48, 50 or something like that - I don't want to get too colourful pictures

Light Smoothing (important): Almost always +1, +2 or sometimes even 0, but almost never negative values.

Luminosity (important): Almost always values under 0

Microcontrast: Always at +2

Micro-Smoothing (important): This does lot to mood of picture; I'll use often values between +2 to +9, but it depends, so try and look...

At this point I have hdr picture. Next I'll open it to Photoshop (old version, 5 or something like that) and do autocontrast. If it seems that picture still needs something, I will do new layer (ctrl+J) and tune it's colours; I can take them even quite far from reality and after that change layer opacity so it will mix with original to get certain mood...

I can't explain it more, it is something like this. I'll would like to think that most important thing is looking, I mean that you just look and find those pictures that are waiting there, take them apart from everything else with your camera. It sounds stupid and over-artistic but it just is something like that. I mean not really artistic but just simple looking and finding.

This may sound like there would be lot of work to do and yes, I play with every picture (and also delete every picture that I don't like, there ain't no need to save everything) but it goes very smoothly and quickly. And most important thing is, that at the end you don't never know before what you will really get, so with this way you can lengthen your trips nicely...

Holy hell, it is 3:00 now! I wish that I don't have to be ashamed about this tomorrow... This can be really terrible text I'll think. Or today actually. Good night to everyone, I will go to sleep now.
