I drove by what was supposed to be that one mini golf course by riverside today but it was gone...the foundations of the course remain but nothing else...theres also a couple HUGE lots right next to it that is just the foundation of apartment complexes that were once there and now demolished but i may go walk around the area one day just to see whats there...when it gets cooler anyway. I did find a few other small buildings in the area and when I was out and about today that may be worth checking out...I'll post em when I get the chance

Aw, that sucks.

What we should do eventually, is go someplace else, like...Waco. It would probably be pretty easy to meet up someplace in Round Rock, and find out who's got the best car(s) for the trip.

It'd probably be best to start a meet like that in the morning, though.

I'm certainly up for doing something like that, and I'd easily be able to take three people with me. I've got a GPS, which can help things as well, because Lord knows no one wants me to navigate without that. I can get lost going down the block. That, or CazyBeast can be the human map.

I also am totally down for that! I know of a few things in Waco in specific too I'd like to go see. My car is pretty big and I could fit up to 5 in it, MAYBE even 6 skinny people lol but 4 or 5 comfortably. It is a little bit of a gas guzzler tho so people may need to chip in a little for it, depends on how much gas I use on the trip. I also got a GPS on my phone so if we need to take a couple cars thats also no big deal

I actually live in Round Rock a small amount of the time so if we ever wanted to meet up there it would be super easy for me. There's actually a surprising amount of stuff to explore up there, too.

And going someplace farther out like Waco would be awesome, though I would need to get a ride. Pitching in for gas is not a problem.

I guess I should probably write something down here.

My car gets okay mileage, and can fit about 4 people besides the driver (and at least two smaller people in the trunk).

And there are smaller towns on the way to Waco like Jarrell and Temple that could be good for exploring, too.

I have a truck with horrible gas mileage, but I like to drive. And it has 4 doors. :]

I am down for whatevas. This weekend isn't looking good for me though, yay distant relatives.

CazyBeast- Ouch. Sorry about the family company. That's rarely any fun.

I'm out for this weekend as well, but most other weekends should work.

I think our normal weekend would work best - because then I'll have time to ask off work that day.

FYI- I went to the Olive Street houses and the house on Curve Street, and they're all boarded up. Got a few nice photos outside, but there's no way in. I was immediately hawk-eyed by an Austin Energy worker, and though he didn't ask me to leave, he stood there staring at me until I left.

Afterward, I did happen across a place that looks perfect. It's right next to Whitaker field. Some of you might have been there before, but I wouldn't mind going. There's clearly an open gate and plenty of cover to get to and then over the fence (barbed wire on top). We'd have to dash from the fence to the door, though, because it's a wide open space, and a fair amount of traffic on 51st. Open door and broken window on site. Didn't see any No Trespassing signs.

actually i live right by that place...within walking distance too...I saw it on Google Earth but looked at the street view and it looked like there were cop cars parked outside of it...either that or they were utility cars and trucks for the field next door (hard to tell with the quality on GE) but I guess it is abandoned after all...I'll go by and check it out one day for sure. If you wanna go too just let me knwo

Welcome to UER and to Austin! On the third Saturday of every month we have a meeting and do some exploration. See details here: http://www.uer.ca/...nt.asp?eventid=533

Sometimes, if enough people are inspired, then mini, non-official meetings might happen as well.

And seriously, where are all of you new people coming from? It's freaking me out!

I guess I should probably write something down here.

Actually i realized I had time before work and before the sun went down to walk over there and check it out so i went for a little stroll lol I just took a little pocket camera with some crappy quality with me just because I didn't wanna walk over there with my big bulky camera in the heat so i definitely want to go back soon with anyone interested. Turns out it was a Texas Parks and Wildlife training center (which would also explain the white utility vehicles with lights on top I saw on google earth)...very recently abandoned too it looks like...and behind the buildings is a big obstacle course I guess they used for training. It's pretty interesting...was scared that there were sensors tho cuz I kept hearing a beep at repeating intervals but turned out to be a fire alarm still functioning. Also found a safe wide open, probably a gun safe and tons of suitcases spread around the place...also had an interesting conveyor belt in it going upstairs. Anyway here's the pics I got (didnt have time to upload and link from elsewhere):

There were several other ways in other then the gate you were talking about and even that technically turned out not to be a way in...but I can't discuss the entries here on the forums (it's against forum rules and for good reason) But we can discus that via PM or if we meet up to go check it out.

Also (i've said this before but I'll say it again) if you have any previous photos or exploring stories please post em in a new forum thread. We love seeing them even if they are from places we all have been plus it helps us get to know you and shows your interest in the hobby and makes others more likely to meet up with you outside of meet ups as well. Kind of a proving yourself in a way but not necessary...meet ups are a good way to get to know us all too.

Edit: Nevermind lol you beat me to it I see, Just now saw your forum thread...good to see you post your stuff though. Interesting finds too.

This training center looks quite awesome. I'd like to see that sometime.

Also, in case you all haven't heard, the power plant whose name starts with H is going to start being decommissioned in July sometime. Which will be sad, because it will have workers taking everything apart and cleaning stuff out.

Probably not this weekend, but we could make a little goodbye trip there (or a hello and goodbye trip for those who still haven't managed to see it). I wouldn't want to take people who haven't attended any meetings yet, though, due to the stealth required and the amount of steal-able items in there.

I guess I should probably write something down here.

Damn that sucks...but agreed, we need to make one last trip there for sure. I also am out for exploring this weekend cuz I picked up a shift Saturday night. But next week, monday and tuesday I should be off (if my schedule is still the same) if anyone wants to go check out that training center again with me

Wow, Urbexinc! You certainly got busy on that! Glad I could be of assistance, but then you totally one-upped me!

I'd absolutely love to go to the training center and DEFINITELY the plant that starts with an H. I've never been to either, and it sounds like I need to get busy! I'll need to bring my boyfriend with me on this one, though, as he'll be in town. My word will have to suffice for him...

Anytime next week is good for me. Urbexinc- you've got my digits. Ring me up when you're ready to explore- or give the word here on the forums. I think I actually check these more than my voicemail.
