NO LONGER deprived of photography
| | | deadmind's got a DSLR < on 5/1/2011 1:50 AM >
| | | Hi there fellow explorers As a few of you might remember, I used to shoot with a broken, borrowed little Fuji P&S, and trying to build an UE community here in Budapest. I always strive to bring the best out of what I've got; but a little while ago, FINALLY, the thing I've been waiting for for so long has happened:
I GOT MYSELF A DSLR!!!
Oooh yes. My very own, refurbished Canon 500D, plus the 18-55mm kit lens. (shut up all you bast'ds with your expensive glass. ) Unfortunately this also happened to be one of my most uninspired times since I got into photography (thanks to losing my girlfriend). But let's see what I got out of it in about my first month and a half of SLR ownership.

- The Parish church situated in the heart of downtown Budapest, right next to the Pest end of Elizabeth bridge, bears the proud title of the oldest building of the city. Yes, the oldest building of the capital of Hungary. In its present form, it was built in 1046 - on top of the ruins of the Roman fortress Contra Aquincum, dating back to the early second century. (Yes, we actually have some history around here unlike you guys )
It has gone through a lot of periodical restorations as you can imagine, the last one finished sometime in the seventies. Apparently it was time for the next big overhaul, as the whole façade of the church is now obscured by scaffolding... And to my surprise, two security guards patrolling down below is all that was stopping me. No motion sensors, no alarms, no cameras... no f***in way! 12

View towards Elizabeth Bridge... looks almost tiny, even though it's somewhere around 11 stories tall. Click for a better view. 16

- There has been a building that I've long since been noticing every time I looked at the Pest skyline from a high point; most buildings are between 6 and 8 stories tall on average, and you will rarely find anything taller than 14. This one, however, belonging to the world-renowned Semmelweis University, has 25 floors. It's pretty much the tallest building in the entire city, and sticks out high above the cityscape. 19
...it was only a matter of time. 20

A birthday cake "sparkler" of sorts, that throws a lot of sparks after you light it. I tried to throw it in through the window of that completely empty shell of a building, but I misjudged the distance and messed up pretty bad. Then it kept burning out of sight (I could only see the light) for a good 2 minutes, and I was seriously thinking I just set fire to an abandonment right next to a police station... would have been one messed up escape, that's for sure. Fortunately, it eventually went out

| | | Thanks a lot everyone! I'd love to hear some constructive criticism too; which shots are the best/worst and how could they be improved? I've never known any photographers in real life, so I can only learn from you guys
