??? The train makes the return trip in the afternoon, leaves Court-mox at about 1 in the afternoon, heading back to Vic, for about 6, you can take a one way trip. I do it all the time. PS, as I write this, the train has been suspended , indefinitely, due to poor track conditions. It may never get going again. Sad, once a railway stops, it is very hard to get it back. This Island has no idea what they are loosing.
| Agreed. Talk about shitting the bed.

| | | the people who run this city are all total fucking idiots, every last one of them. That bridge had a maintenance schedule, and it worked, but when someone got it in their head to make a new bridge legacy project, maintenance stopped. A tactic not reserved for developers holding onto heritage properties, it would seem, as demolition by neglect is exactly what we're witnessing. Once the paranoia of an unsafe bridge got a foothold in the many mindless morons of Victoria (yeah, there's a shit ton) then the city can say whatever they want, and we'll believe them. Why I appear to be the only one who doubts any superstructure that can safely support it's own weight is suddenly unsafe to ride a bike across, (sigh) I dunno. People should just use it anyways. They put up a barrier, we kick it into the water. Another barrier, tossed over again. Fuck em all, right in the ear.

| | | Posted by A. Lien Srysly, I saw a map online a few years ago that showed an old tunnel on the base. The description said it was blocked off but used for storage. I've had no luck finding that link again.
| There is a tunnel between the submarine building, and it's annex, the submarine . It goes between the Dockyard Drydock, and the Submarine Squadron building. I have not been in it, it has been closed since before I reported aboard HMCS Huron. I understand sesmic concerns are one of the reasons why it is closed. The path aboveground would take it under Shop 137/137A (Oil Burner Controls). There's not much on top of the hill there, so I suspect that the tunnel has some chambers off it, probably originally used for ammo storage. I am aware of the magazine on one of the islands in Esquimalt Harbour. It is allegedly, unlined rock. Re the train: It sucks- I was planning on going for a ride the weekend they pulled the pin. On the railfan sites I read, not much positive outlook at this time for rail service on the island. Looks like we're down to 3 public passenger carrying railways on the island Peach

Indeed.

| For some reason, the image of you giggling is going to haunt my dreams tonight. Posted by NinjaKlutz And I do know of at least one person who loved him when he was homeless.
| Rev. Al ... Have never met the man, but he is an unsung hero and highly undervalued. Along with everyone else who works or volunteers at the shelters. A friend of mine works at one and I sure as hell couldn't do it. It'll be a sad day when I watch the Blue Bridge go down. Speaking of that... I was speaking with a cop recently working on a murder case. They were diving for the weapon where the suspect said he threw it. They pulled up a gun, but not the right one - It was a 1930s pistol! I wonder what kind of other surprises they're gonna find when putting new foundations in. Our water is too acidic for anything made from wood to survive long. I suspect needles, beer cans, industrial stuff, assorted liquor/spirits/soda bottles from 100 years ago, and maybe stuff from the old Songhees village (stone artefacts or bottles). First Nations used to trade for liquor/beer brought up from California around the time of the gold rush. Its not like the had a recycling plant so I've heard they just used to old bottles into the water.

| | | Posted by ladyluck A-Lien: you have me drooling over the thought of calamari. Leaving on the 22nd, unfortunately, which isn't a lot of time to do much of anything; most of that time is completely free for me though. No exams, nothing. Anyone know of any good spots in Waterloo, ON, or Montreal? Those are my next stops...

| | | Posted by NinjaKlutz I've been there too!!! Schwartz's--- Best PLACE ON EARTH!!! I could like write a 3000 word essay on Canada's best Jewish owned smoked meat eatery.....and post it all on UER. It's funny, when I went there, there were a coupla tourists who asked me if the place had any good salads.....
(and Montreal's pretty cool, too).
| Montreal is Canada's best city. Write that down. If I had to leave Victoria for any other Canadian destination, Montreal would be my first, second and third choice. Toronto would be my sixth choice, but only if I had a gun stuck in my ear.
