| | Silver Lake Bible Camp < on 12/28/2010 9:20 PM >
| | | I was out playing frisbee golf at Silver Lake in Everett WA and noticed an old fenced in building that looks like a huge wooden quonset hut or old hanger type building. You can see the faded words Silver Lake Bible Camp on the front of the building. There is plastic over the roof, I suppose to protect it from the rain (it is made of wood). You can see into part of the building from the back. There is a low chain link fence around the building. I did some web research and have only found one reference to the bible camp from the 1950s. I am really curious to find out what the original purpose of this building was. I will try and get some pics of the exterior next time I stop there for a round of frisbee golf. Anyone know what this building was built for (it seems like an odd shape to be built for the bible camp). Max

| | | No idea... been there several times, though. There's also a white house near there that looks like it has been closed for ages as well as a great abandoned dock. I have some pics of them somewhere, but never got to go inside the house.

| | | Did you get inside the large Bible Camp building? If you have some pics please post a few. I think I will need to visit the Everett library to find out who built that building and what it was for. Max

| | | This all I have found about the building on the Internet so far: Most historic buildings in the area have been demolished over time, including a roller skating rink that was located just south of today’s Thornton Sullivan Park. The only remaining structure of significance is the domed building, circa 1930’s or 1940’s, at the southern end of Thornton Sullivan Park. The Everett Parks Department is studying options for restoration and use of the building for the public.

| | | Nope, no inside pics of that, either, but we are going out exploring tomorrow, so maybe that would be a good place to explore

| | | Caution!! That building is alarmed. My understanding is that it's used for picnic table storage. Breaking in there will get you a visit by the boys in blue. It's entirely possible that if you can locate a park ranger and explain what you're doing, they may unlock the place and let you look around. Worst they can say is No. Chris

There is a historian what works at the everett library that can tell you just about anything you want to know. I once asked him about a steel reinforced bunker lookin thing over by the alternative school and that guy talked my ear off for about an hour. the phractal

| | | Silver Lake once had a large & important air defense sector operations center for a couple years in the beginning days of the Cold War. A High Frequency & VHF/UHF radio communications facility remained there after the air defense sector ops center moved to McChord AFB. You're also quite close to the remains of the Geiger Field Air Defense Command interceptor base, and numerous Fairchild AFB ATLAS-E ICBM sites as well as old Nike missile sites that protected the area. A target-rich environment for the military archaeologist!
