| | Mercy Medical/Valley Plaza Retirement Home Idaho. < on 11/8/2010 8:22 PM >
| | | I stopped by yesterday just to see how things were going and I noticed all new boards on the windows including the one that was used to get in. And the door around back that looked boarded up but could still be opened was completely sealed and there were three shopping carts outside of it, meaning they kicked the homeless out. There was a big red sign on the door with a piece of paper attached saying how the building is now dangerous and has become a nuisance and a danger. Anybody know what's in store for the building? It sounds to me like they are planning on demolishing it.

| | | I went by it yesterday too on the way to Boise and yes it is cleaned up for sure with all new boards. The real estate group or whoever is managing it is noting it's a historical plaza, so I don't believe there are any current plans to demolish it. If so, it would make the news and my demolition contractor buddy would have heard about it. I think they are just trying to keep it from deteriorating further and keep it from looking so ragged. They cleaned up all the weeds and brush too.

| | | I haven't seen anything yet. A lady from the clinic across the street can out and told me that the owner was to be emailed or called if there was anyone that looked like they were going to break in( obviously telling me to keep the hell away in a nice manner). I'll be checking it out again this weekend.

Is it the clinic to the east, right? Dr. Steven T?

That would be the one. The closest to the abandoned parking lot right off 17th. I think you would be fine to check it out if you stayed to the side closest to the 16th street. She was nice and wasn't mean about it at all! [last edit 11/9/2010 6:19 PM by jasonj - edited 1 times]

| | | Historical plaza does not mean it is a historical site. You may want to look into the Historical Building registry to see if it is actually listed. I doubt it will be. To become a historical site a ton of work has to be done and different people have to come out and survey the building. Usually, that kind of thing makes the newspaper and I haven't heard anything about that building.

| | | I haven't seen any Demo News. Made a few phone calls. Nobody knows anything about it. Lucky, that parcel of land isn't worth crap and is in a bad location. So walmart will not be tearing down another important historical building for their own evil needs anytime soon. Lets just hope they don't make it into apartments or anything stupid as these buildings usually become.

True, it's more a marketing tactic than fact. I noticed there are similar facades across the street, so this was once some type of campus encompassing a few blocks.
