| | | My main light when exploring is this: A HDS Ra Clicky, its high CRI which I love cause it just gives you that little extra depth perception. Full user programability is also a plus. Its also practically indestructible. In a holster on my belt I have this: The Olight M20 Warrior, no real reason, I just like the size and how it feels in my hand, plus it can also take a serious beating. In my pack I have this: A Fenix TK40, for those times when only bringing out the sun will do! and this Which is my backup light, purely because I know it will never let me down.

| | | Running a Fenix TK12 R5 with 18650 batteries, and a Fenix LD10 R4 usually in a headband. No complaints, excellent lights. The TK12 is incredibly bright at 245 lumens (ANSI) with excellent throw. I guess the only downside is it lasts "only" 3 hours at that setting with the upgraded battery, but it is multi mode. 245 ANSI lumens is incredible for it's size though, definitely a "fear no evil" light. The LD10 in a headband with a flip up diffuser is amazing. 100 ANSI lumens and it's good for 2 hours on a single AA Eneloop. Again, it has lower modes (and hence longer battery life). The headband and diffuser combo is great for all kinds of tasks. Without the headband, it's pretty easy to deal with even as an every day carry light, if you don't mind the thickness. Both of these are lighter, brighter, and more durable and efficient than a Maglite or incandescent light. This LED technology is far superior in my opinion. And to those who like the idea of using a Maglite as a defensive weapon (which I hope none of us count on happening), the Fenix TK series' bezels around the emitter head features crenelations which make a mean strike. Personally, I cannot understand how people envy the weight and dimness of a Maglite anymore these days! The technology has been superseded, just head over to Candle Power Forums and see what the flashlight nuts are up to, it's amazing!

| TK40 is very nice. Fenix lights are my main flashlight of choice these days. Have an LD20 and use it with Sanyo Eneloop batteries. For anyone who doesn't know, Fenix is a Chinese brand that makes high quality tactical lights. They are water proof, extremely durable and use very powerful CREE LEDs. Also, Eneloop batteries are probably the best on the market. They do not provide the largest amount of power, but at 2000mAh, they are still worthy contenders. The reason I like them is because they retain most of their charge after sitting around. I use them for my camera flashes, remote controls, and especially flashlights. Great thing about the LD20 (which uses two AA batteries), is that even for its small size, it will put 6-D cell Maglites to shame. I've been wanting to grab the Fenix LD45 one of these days. Now THAT is a monster of a light. Or maybe an HID flashlight.

| | | I just splurged on myself and picked up a Sunwayman M40A. 600 lumen high mode off four AA batteries for about 2 hours, a low mode that's as bright as my old 2D Maglite and lasts 35 hours, plus a middle bright and a strobe mode. It makes me want to do the Star Wars poster pose. High mode is insane and it throws forever. A full review is at: http://www.candlep...man%29-M40A-Review It has a forward twist ring rather than a rear clicky or side push or slide button, which some have faulted for "tactical" reasons, but I've found I can rotate it between modes with a gloved thumb at no risk of dropping it. Far from the most expensive light out there, but the most expensive one I've ever bought. Best price I was able to find was at batteryjunction.com, and you can get another 5% off that price if you dig around for a discount code. Most of the time I use a Energizer Hardcase 4AA headlamp and an old Streamlight Twintask with a xenon main and LED secondary. But if I ever need to melt the eyeballs of the mole people, I know which light I'll be using.
