Another here for DC/Baltimore/anything in Maryland...and if that ends up being the case, I'd be into helping plan it.

Louisville is a hour south of me. I really hope we can branch out from the Northern part due to other meets that take place in those areas.

And it was about 5-6 people discussing it over dinner about Louisville, not 1 or 2.

There are a lot more than 5 to 6 people in the Mid-Atlantic. What is this power trip some of y'all have been on? Get over yourselves.

It was not a power trip PCE at all. I am sure there will discussions about it later this week, but I do agree the date is kinda bad. We should have a vote, but not a blind vote on various locations without thinking about whats in the area, who's in the area, and weather.

I don't care when or where it is, as long as I have enough time to take off from work and save up some cash. Preferably at least a month.

No its more finding a city that has locations that we can explore, have a reasonable place to stay, and have a good time. DC is very violent, high security, and expensive.

Violence isn't anything to worry about. There are going to be like seven thousand of us, and only ten bums. VAman and I already had our two-of-us-and-20-of-them moment at the Belle Isle power plant at midnight, so the fear is gone.

You heard it, we got batman and robin to protect of from the scary things you find in public parks in the dark.

We should be fine.

All I know is that I'm down, regardless of where it's being held. I'll admit that I'd rather in be in the DC/Baltimore area just because I have a certain affinity for Bmore, but I'm totally willing to branch out and go somewhere that I've never been before. Coming from NH, it's going to be a long drive regardless of what the final decision for the location is.

There are a lot more than 5 to 6 people in the Mid-Atlantic. What is this power trip some of y'all have been on? Get over yourselves.

I was being told by a large number of well-known UER people (mainly Edwin and Paisley) that DC was an extremely bad idea. I was also told by the person who suggested DC that he suggested it and voted for it as a joke. Like I said before, I'm not trying to make all the decisions, just make sure something gets done. When I had the vote, I was hoping to pass everything over to someone who was the "host" for whatever city was voted for, but people didn't want that. Everyone on the voting thread was telling me to just organize it and that we didn't need to have a local host. This entire thing has turned out to be ridiculously complicated and dramatic. I've tried to keep discussion of this on the boards and decisions made as a group but inevitably a lot of people end up PMing me or talking to me in person or on Facebook to say what they want to say, despite my clear efforts to NOT make myself completely in charge of MAMU.

Personally, I'm sick of the arguing. I chose Louisville because I'm hearing so many conflicting things about various different cities being awesome or being extremely terrible places for MAMU that I don't know who I can trust, so I went with the one where I knew first hand that there is tons of stuff to explore. I had originally planned to have a vote on the date, but that was a nightmare with the location and I didn't want to go through it again. I posted the date for discussion for quite a while, and not a single person objected to the date I chose, so I went with it. Obviously no date is going to work for everyone.

I tried my absolute best to include as many people as possible in all of the decisions. But that turns out to be way easier said than done. Everyone had plenty of opportunity to give their input, and as far as I can see, we came to this decision as democratically as possible considering that voting doesn't seem to work.

If the people who told me DC was bad were wrong, then I'm sorry, but I heard it from enough different people, including locals and other people that I trust, that it was not going to work, and along with being told that it was suggested and voted for as a joke, it seemed at the time ridiculous to stick with that.

SO, what it comes down to is...if I'm organizing this, then we're sticking with what we've got. At least it's something, and I see no reason MAMU can't be a successful event with the decision that we've made. If there is massive widespread discontent with the event as it has been set now, then please someone else take this over because I can't deal with the utter pandemonium. As long as I'm involved, I'm sticking with the date and location that has been set. If I'm over-ruled by a massive revolt, then, no hard feelings, but I'm out.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go..." -Dr. Suess

Louisville is a great city, my second favorite after Toronto and Minneapolis.

'Loo-ville' is:
-Tons to explore
-Centrally located, geographically
-Relatively safe
-Relatively inexpensive
-Beautiful as any downtown in the U.S.

Anyone who doesn't think it's not worth the trip hasn't been there. LOUISVILLE '10! LOUISVILLE '10! LOUISVILLE '10!

And Craig, dismiss the cynics and dissenters; there's more to a UE meet than getting all our UER icons in a row! I still think most of the disagreement is because Kentucky is not really a Mid-Atlantic state, but a southern-midwest one... if you want to duck some criticism, I guarantee a name change would solve most of the matter. 'Midwestfest II' anyone?
